What's your preference and why?
Sorry if this has been done to death, but I looked and didn't see it anywhere.

My opinion...Fanny pack (although they look terrible!!!!) because it is smaller, and I am less likely to smack someone in the face with it. I've never found a backpack that didn't hurt my back, either.

Well, I'm a 25-year old gal, and I always picked on my mom for wearing one. Three trips ago, I started wearing one for one reason or the other, and I will never go back! Most of the space in a backpack you don't need anyway, and it's a pain to open all the zippers when going through security.

It's also much easier to get on rides without having to swing off a backpack. I have to admit, though, for the first day or so I always fell like I forgot something like my purse, because my arms and back feel so empty!

Despite the fashion faux pas, wear the fanny pack. Everyone else is, so no one will notice :)

I don't like the fanny pack. Since I carry a backpack with me everywhere I go anyway, it doesn't bother me to carry that through the parks. Even if fanny packs were "acceptable in our fashionable society," I still couldn't use it.

Anything I could fit in a fanny pack, I can fit in my pocket, therefore negating any actual purpose for me. And lastly, I usually go during February, so I need to bring a sweatshirt with me sometimes in case it gets cold (which it does)...

In conclusion, I usually don't bring either...I just stuff my pockets with my wallet, my cell phone (in case of emergencies), and a pen (I'm a writer) and I'm ready to go.

I would definitely pick the fanny pack (yes they are UGLY, and I WILL be removing it from now on when I get photos taken!), but as long as everything fits that you need to take into the parks take the fanny pack!! :thumbsup2

I use a fanny pack. I need a place for my camera and well, that won't fit in my pocket and it is a pain always taking a backpack off to get the camera. Takes too long lol.

Used to use a fanny pack - worst of all, it was bright red!!!

Now I travel with the majority of the stuff in my pockets, and what doesn't fit in the pockets, we put in a camera case with the camera (camera case has a lot of mesh pockets).

DW uses a small backpack in WDW instead of a purse, so that helps.

Next trip, I'm going to try a messenger-style bag. Backpacks seem too big and fanny packs are too small. So far, I haven't found just what I want, though.

I used to use a fanny pack and a backpack. The FP was for my money, ticket, camera, lip balm, etc. The backpack was for ponchos, snacks, papers (ADR confirmations, etc) - basically stuff that was too big for the fanny pack and that I didn;t need frequent access to.

The fanny pack now gets in the way on rides w/ restraints (I'm not skinny but not quite what I call Pooh sized), so I gave it up when I found a new item. It is a small bag that has a long strap I can wear across my chest. It has the slots and such for my tickets, ID, CC, money, and a roomy pocket for lip balm, etc. I found my camera pouch (35MM, not digital), and I just slide it on the strap of the bag on the front of my chest, which gives me quicker access to the camera than I had w/ the fanny pack (velcro flap rather than a zipper and moving everything out of the way!).

I also found a really light mesh backpack at Target that replaced my heavier Eastpack type one I was using. It doesn't get hot and sweaty on my back anymore, and half the time I even forget I'm wearing it. If I know for sure the weather will be OK, I will try to get everything in the little bag and skip the backpack. I don't have kids, so I don't have to worry about extra stuff.

If I absolutely had to choose, I would go w/ a small backpack and get some kind of badge holder around the neck for tickets and other valuables.

Back pack for me - I used one last year, a "fancy" one that had a cell phone pocket, special pocket for the camera, a small top pocket for receipts and small stuff, etc. It wasn't heavy, and it let me bring everythign we needed (extra set of clothes for my daughter, travel book, extra shirt for the wife and i in case we are messy eaters, and my tablet to track how much we are spending.)

It was easier carrying the pack through the park then I thought, and was more convenient then a fanny pack for us.

go for the fanny pack or a small pull-string backpack. My mom and I always wear the fanny pack but this year I lost mine and couldn't find a nice one to buy to I bought a pull string bag...was a pain to take it off and on to open it up and also was a pain to search through it becuase everything just fell in there..the nice thing was that you could sit and not have to take it off and if you did have a lot of stuff you could pretty much put a lot in there and even a few tiny souveneirs you bought from the parks but personally i would go for the fanny pack...bad fashion-easy travel :teeth:

We use a fanny pack with a water bottle holder. That way we can refill our bottles at the water fountains instead of spending all that $$$$ on drinks in the parks. Wear it loose and just slide it on to your hip when riding the rides.I never had any problems with it getting in the way, but I do agree they are not very stylish. :cool2:

i like the backpack! fits everything i need... plus i don't use a large on just a tiny on.. don't want to risk messing up my tan! :)

Neither!

I get my husband to wear cargo shorts, cram those full, and I wear a lanyard around my neck that has our tickets, credit card, and license.

Travel light; travel fast!

Have to add that this gets you into the no bag line, too...

No one in their right mind should wear a fanny pack, specially if you went to highschool or worse college. lol! Double standards for the males.

It should fit in your pockets. You don't need anything that can't fit there or you can find/ buy it in the parks.

period.

I carry a lightweight, carefully packed backpack. We pack our camera gear, park tickets, park maps band aids, and my husband's wallet in it. My husband and I take turns carrying it-it doesn't bother either one of us and we like having everything we need w/ us. I don't mind that other people wear fanny packs, but I won't do it until I wear a size 6 again! :rotfl:

Not to offend anyone, but I could not bring myself to buy a fanny pack even though I had originally planned on it. I went to Container Store and found a messenger bag that I absolutely loved on our trip. It was smaller than a backpack but larger than a fanny pack. Because the strap went across the body it was very comfortable to wear and didn't hurt my back. One of the best things about it is that you don't have to take it off to get into it - just swing it around to the front. It easily carried everything I needed and came with this great little card holder that I kept my ID, tickets etc in and was very secure. I actually didn't have to take it off to get on any of the rides - just move it to the side. I like it so much I'll probably use it as my purse/small diaper bag when I go the mall and such here at home. Check out Container Store - they have a great travel section.

Cool! I will look there for a messenger bag. Thanks for the tip!
