Fanny Pack ALTERNATIVES?

While I would prefer to carry just a tiny little bag I always find that I have a few too many things to carry and I need some kind of bag (rain poncho, band-aids, asprin, dry socks etc.). I have a small cotton backpack that I just love. I usually only carry it over one shoulder, but even if it's on my back it never gets too hot.

I recently bought a small LL Bean touring bag for use as a commuter bag. I'm loving it for that purpose and am thinking of trying it out as a park bag as well.

I use a Baggalini messenger bag to carry the essentials (dd's epi pens, benadryl, wipes, small container of ibuprofen, sunglasses, cell phone, touring plans, my water bottle).

Dh wears cargo shorts for passes and other random things. Sometimes he carries the digital camera, sometimes I put it in my bag. He uses a carabiner clip thingy for his water bottle.

The kids (14, 12, 7) wear their water bottles on straps. They are responsible for their own hats and sunglasses, though I'll put them in my bag for rollercoasters and at night.

I use a wristlet. Look to the right, see the hook? I clip it on my beltloop of my shorts.:thumbsup2

With 3 little ones, I bring a back pack. It fits ponchos for all, snacks/lunch and has great pockets in the front for camera, wallet, etc. It also has two nice side pouches for my Britta water bottles...such money savers :)

UPDATE!!!

mmmkay, I have 2 bags that will provide some flexible options for me.

First, the backpack. Sure, it's a little bigger than a fanny pack. But, I am going to be traveling with DD7 and DS4, along with DW. I just might need to know where my towel is (to quote Douglas Adams), if you know what I mean.

Second, I have a smaller bag (actually listed as a "camera bag") that has a belt loop. It's big enough to hold park tix/room keys, cards, cash, small camera (which is my only camera LOL), but not bulky. Sure, I can't keep the poncho or towel in it, but oh well.

I figure different scenarios, parks, and times may call for different bags. I've been paying attention to what a certain TourGuide has to say on the issue as well.

Thanks to all. I'll keep y'all posted....

.....now....CUE THOSE BANANAS!!

Sorry, I wear fanny packs while at WDW. I wouldn't here in my regular life, but they work really good at Disney.

Try a Baggalini, they're worshipped here on the DIS.

I found JUST THE BAG- its a really cool "waist purse" that you can wear around your waist, or over your shoulder or across the chest like a messenger bag. its handmade leather/suede or canvas/leather combinations that actually held all my stuff- wallet, keys, phone, smokes, lipstick. I've:love: been able to use it dressed up or dressed down and nothing fell out on the roller coasters. the website is lacintura dot com. if you hate the fanny pack but love the idea of a fanny pack this bag is for you.

I wore a fanny pack on a Disney trip. Then I looked at our pictures.:scared1:

I would love to get away with just cargo shorts, but I can't fit the poncho in them.

So I'm in the "messenger bag" group. I bought mine at the gift shop at the Dinosaur ride in Animal Kingdom. It's cotton canvas in a natural beige color and cost about $32. It has an outside zippered compartment and two snap pockets on the front, one zippered compartment on the inside, and two side pockets. I find it comfortable and light, but would it have killed them to make one side pocket big enough to fit a water bottle?

My vote is for the Overland Equipment Juno bag or the Placer bag.

I use a small backpack that I got at Walmart. I always bring a fanny pack to WDW, but I never use it. It hangs on my waist in a funny way, so my back ends up hurting. The small backpack is easy and carries everything I need. I test out the weight multiple times before actually leaving my room with it. There is no reason to take up valuable souvenir space with extra granola bars!

Really think through what you absolutely have to carry. Of course if you have little ones you will need a lot more stuff!

For our trip it was just DH, myself and our 14 year old. We decided no rain ponchos. It was 92 degrees just about every day (in October!) so we figured the rain would actually feel good, or we would just go back to the rental house.

So, all I carried was my small camera bag. Tucked inside was money, credit card, drivers license, dental floss (I hate food stuck in my teeth), band aid, carmex, extra camera batteries, a couple tissues, and a small pack of hand wipes. That's it. It worked out fantastic. the bag was a breeze to carry and it was easy to strap in with myself on every single ride.

KAVU BAGS! They're actually really trendy here in Alabama. Almost everyone at my highschool has one. Maybe it's a southern thing but anyways they're really cute, versatile, and efficient for touring the parks! You wear them like messenger bags but they're much less bulky. See them here: http://www.shoestation.com/shoestat...ove=none&q_list=Brand,Style&q_count=2&x=0&y=0
( you can't see the strap in some of the pictures, but it's there!! )

Well, I just got back, and I ended up using a borrowed shoulder bag (the bag was borrowed, not the shoulder.) that worked out great. I'll be buying one soon. Especially if my DW makes up her mind that she wants to go...NEXT YEAR!!

My vote is for the Overland Equipment Juno bag or the Placer bag.

Overland Equipment also makes the Donner bag referred to earlier. I use that bag if it's going to be an overcast day or if I'm taking the camera (I haven't found a case for my new S5 IS yet), but if it's nice weather and no camera, it's cargo pants for me and the bag free line! The thing I like about the Donner bag is that I can put my compact umbrella in one of the water bottle holders and have my nylon poncho inside the bag, so I'm ready for anything.

Last trip I used the Ameribag and loved it. I don't take a lot to the parks, but I do like to have a few things with me. This bag has become my everyday bag. It stays on your shoulder and NEVER causes back or shoulder pain. It has compartments and pockets so everything is organized and accessible. So glad I bought this bag!

It's a hard decision. I'm Pooh-sized and hate fanny packs but they are convient. I do not like buying bags I cannot see in person. Someone suggested going to AAA. They had a great selection-some were mentioned here. I got a Travelon messanger style shoulder style. I needed it wide enough for my camera and extra batteries. It was only $23 and got an AAA discount. Hope it works.
