Fancy food?

On our EBPC one of our table mates (we shared with another couple) mentioned that they loved Indian food. From then on our servers brought us special meals from the crew mess. 😂

My point is that DCL will be very accommodating, as everyone has mentioned. And I agree that the food is very "middle of the road".

I LOVE Indian food! What a treat.

One one of our cruises, we were seated with a family with a little boy who ate chicken strips and fries with every, single meal. Mickey bar for dessert. Every meal. The servers were great about getting him what he wanted.

Hi! I’ve been watching a vlog on YouTube of a guy who has gone on the fantasy. He vlogs each day. nearly all the meals he vlogs about are way too fancy for my meat and potatoes kids. I know this is a stupid question, but do you think this is an accurate description? He’s gone to what I feel now are the fancy restaurants. I suppose we could go to cabanas, but I feel we’d be missing out on the rotational dining options. Anyone have opinions on the restaurants on the fantasy?
I would not describe the main dining restaurants or their food as fancy, no. Tasty and nicely presented meals, yes, but not fancy. There will be ample items for non-gourmet kids to choose from. Steak, chicken, fish, etc. Pretty straightforward stuff.

If the poster was showing meals from the adult upcharge restaurants, those can get more fancy, especially Remy. But they don't allow people even a day under 18 there, so it's no issue for your kids.

Granddaughter was unhappy that pepperoni pizza wasn't on menu every night but the waiters just asked in the kitchen and got her one. Kids
menu includes Mickey Bars, and even the adults order this a lot. You can pretty much always get plain steak, chicken and french fries. The rotational
dining is worth doing but early dining can be a bit rushed. If you think you want two of an appetizer order them at the same time - fixed seating
dining isn't set up to get an app later in the dinner. Not a problem on other cruise lines.

Disney, like all cruise lines, have a handful of options that never change. The "main" menu will differ but they always have standard meat and potato dishes.

This is how my kids when they were little and cruising starting out in the dining rooms. Now they are food snobs LOL.. But my young adult daughter can still be picky- every night a caesar salad. By the third night, the servers were just bringing her one-and she was smiling. It all works out- plenty to eat and plenty of choices!

This is my kid but with mac n cheese! We have done a few 14 night cruises and by night 3 or 4 it's just a look between him and server for ordering. He will be 15 on the next EBTA and hoping maybe a night or two he'll pick something else.

They are really not that fancy. Restaurants just like to use other names for foods that are basic. Many use the French version for things because it sounds fancier. Like haricot vert is just green beans. Nothing fancy about green beans. Most of the menu items are not what I would call "fancy" in any way. If you break them down, they are all just meat and potatoes. I would highly suggest that you expose your kids to as many food items as possible while they are growing up. One of the best things about the cruise is that you can order whatever you want so that you can try things that you might not have had before without paying a crazy price for food you might not finish. My kids loved going on the cruise so that they could try new things. You never know what you like unless you actually try it.

This was my oldest on a couple of her cruises. Not that she did not like other food, she just loved the Caesar salad on the ship. She would get an appetizer and have the salad as her main. We love going on the Disney cruise. My girls tried so many new foods that they found out that they loved. Things like lamb and scallops where some of their favorites. Every night we would order what we wanted but then got 1 dish that we have never had to share so that we can all try something new. It was great seeing my kids get so excited to try new foods.

We find the menu to be overly fancy especially for kids/teens. There are other dinner options if nothing on the menu works for you, like the Cabanas, room service or pool area.

We find the menus to be pretty simple. Disney doesn’t do adventurous cuisine. They play it safe (and sweet). They always have the basics alongside the meal theme offerings. As others have mentioned, it’s a good place to try something new b/c they can get something else if they don’t like their first choice.
Personally, I wish they’d elevate their menus. We find it pretty mediocre. We have 4 kids and they find the kid meals too boring.

I am going to respectfully disagree. I think that is way too broad of a statement to say that it is too fancy for kids and teens. My kids had no issues finding food to eat, and the food was even something that they talk about as a highlight of the cruise. The issue is not the food, but in how many Americans feed their children. We have had several conversations with servers, that come from all over the World, about how American kids eat like crap. Kids will eat what they are used to eating, and if that is just stuff like burgers, nuggets, mac and cheese, and pizza, then that is all they know. Kids don't know what they like because they are not exposed to other foods. That is not on the child, they are not physically incapable of eating a variety of foods. Kids in other Countries eat whatever their parent's put in front of them, and it's not the stuff that they eat here. And not all American parents feed their kids these limited foods. So for those kids who have been raised eating a variety of foods, the food on the Ships is really good and not "fancy", just normal food.

I agree. My kids never ordered from the kid's menu because it was all of the same junk. They loved the adult meal options. Sometimes they would switch out the type of vegetable or starch, but they loved being able to chose from a variety of foods. The first night, the servers where always shocked that my kids would order normal food, and eat it. LOL

I’ll start by saying that I hope you have discovered or your servers have told you that kids can order off the adult menu without any issue.

Second, it’s not even that the kids menu is boring. (It is, but let’s put that aside.) The food on the kids menu is kind of gross. The fries are always mushy. The pizza is terrible. The Mac n cheese noodles are over cooked and gummy. The veggies they are serve are alway those bland frozen mixed veggie blends. When she was really little we’d order food from that menu and DD just wouldn’t eat much at dinners. We’d supplement with charcuterie from the coffee bar or stuff up on deck. Now we just bypass the kids menu completely and order from the adult menu or ask for curry the day before.

For sure! The kids meals are boring AND gross. My kids almost never order them...they order from the adult menu (and often do that at regular restaurants and split meals or do apps). The adult menu is better but still not great.

I am goin to agree with the person that said try something new. I remember one night I had already decided what I was having as my main dish. The waiter came up and recommended the sea bass. I really had my head set on my previously chosen dish but I said sure bring a sea bass also. Well . . . 2years later I have no idea what my original dish was but we loved the sea bass. Loved it so much we arranged for the waiter to bring it to us again on another night when it was being served in a different dining room.
