Does anyone know what the rules are for adults dressing up on park? I know WDW can refuse entry if you're dressed up outside of Halloween, but I can't find anything that says I can't do it in Paris? (except for this article http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ned-Disneyland--dressed-fairy-princesses.html, but I tend not to trust the daily mail!) My little cousin wants to dress as Tinkerbell and she clearly needs a pirate entourage!

Children are definately allowed to dress up but personally, I would say up until the age of about 12.

I've just read that story and to be honest, it was the mum who got "told off" which is quite right because its a rather silly thing to do unless its the halloween party or another event where your supposed to dress up.
Like I said before, I'm sure your cousin would be fine dressing up but it does say only if your under the age of 9 :goodvibes

as long as your cousin looks like a child rather than a young lady, she'll be fine dressing up at DLP :) - but you as adults won't be allowed to be her Pirate entourage in costume I'm afraid.

The wail has it wrong then as they sell dresses in the park with age 10,11,12 in them. ;) I saw some of the Snow white ones a fortnight ago at -50%

Surely the odd stripy t-shirt and red necktie/spotty headscarf among the group wouldn't be too cheeky ;-)

Sigh, I think I'll just have to accept I'm a grown up and behave! I think hobbesy has the right idea, I'll go pirate themed and leave my spectacular pirate coat for another day! Thanks everyone (:

Considering they sell costume ears/hats/gloves for adults in the park a few token accessories would be fine. If you want to be pirates then you could make the Pirates of The Caribbean shop your first stop and buy some official park pirate accessories, that way they can't really say anything.

But yes, dress normally, then add a few subtle pirate accessories.

Thank you for the welcome. We've just booked a 3ngt trip at the end of August. I went about 15 years ago at college but my husband and children have never been. Its a surprise for them, so no doubt once they're in bed I'll hop on and join in the fun properly :-)

I did notice a sign at the park entrance while queuing up that said only professional costumes/make up allowed... remembered thinking it would be funny for someone to come in full costume as Mickey... but as others have said, they can't ban stripey tops and nautical accessories!

Well I did work at Thorpe Park in the horror mazes for a while so technically it would be professional make up! I guess this sign meant only Disney professionals though. I know one of the reasons they do it is because they don't want loads of rubbishy looking knock off princess's walking around ruining the magic... So technically if I look awesome it should be fine! ...Right? lol.

erm nope - another reason they don't want professionally-costumed adults in the parks is so that kids don't think they are staff and want photos etc with them. Its a no-no at DLP I'm afraid.

I have to agree with their policy but it's still sad that it's like that really, more a reflection on society's attitude in general than Disney. We all want our kids to be safe and the CMs will be screened so this unfortunately has to be the rule.

OTish why are the called pirates? They just AAaargghh! My kids are telling that one just now.....

sort of HS but screening doesn't exist here, there are no police checks for this sort of job..home checks are carried out for someone who want's to adopt/foster or child mind but not for working in a creche, school, after school club, holiday camp or a theme park..hs off

Surely the characters have police checks?

Ok people in the shops, restauranrs etc fair enough as they arent in direct contact with children and no shops / restaurants etc here do police checks either. However, as characters cuddle, play around with children etc I would of thought they would need to be checked :confused3

Id never really thought about this but if asked Id have said yes they would be police checked so Im surprised about that as well but from what Carrie said it looks as though they arent - she said there are no police checks for those working in schools, creches, after school clubs etc etc - this is really surprising considering how strict we are in the UK recently so it just shows how the countries differ

I can find no reference anywhere to police checks on characters and I'm not suprised really.
Even if they do seeing that the majorité of these people are late teens unless they had commited a major offense (for which they would be still locked up for) their charge sheet would be wiped clean at 18 so it would come back clear.

There are a lot of differences between the 2 countries now that the UK has become strict.
You only have to look at the school trips/days out to see the difference. Here you will see 2 adults with 20-25 children of primary school age, they don't wear hi-vis, travel without seatbelts in coaches, can be taken in groups in teachers/parents cars
Parents can go along to help out at events without having any controls made.

Look at the groups in DLP this summer you will see teens looking after groups of children that have come from the North of France for a day out organised by the town.
(You see a lot of this in the holidays and last year OH and I were infact shocked by one group as the teens were smoking and shouting at the kids)

The characters are never left on their own with the children and they are costumed up completely so I would have thought that a risk of any mal intent would be extremely rare.

I guess I was more suprised to learn that the characters were interchangeable - The person in Minnie could also be later in Mickey and then later a Princess for example.

ps-I've just checked with a friend who is a babysitter through an agency. She has never been police checked and goes daily to peoples homes and looks after their children.

:confused3 Wasn't sure were smilies were appropriate in the above so I'll wish you all a great day here at the end :goodvibes

When we were there a few weeks ago I saw a grown lady walking around the dlh in full princess get up :)

I am shocked that no checks are done on cm, I used to work on an army barracks working in the mess hall, because I MAY have come into contact with under 18's (it was a training barracks so the minimum age was 17) we all had to have enhanced crb checks done
