Family Vacation help needed......

Besides WDW and DL we need some where else to go on vacation. We live in So. CA. I want to do Hawaii this summer but DH is not so sure. We have done all the local places and want something different. I started researching on inclusive family camps - not Cllub Meds but more of a 4 Seasons camping/dude ranch type places. There are many in Northern California. Has anyone done anything like these and if so how did you like it?
From what I can see they provide the accomodations (cabins in most cases) and you bring your own bedding etc. Some have sharred baths and others private. Either way is fine. All activities are included as are all meals served family style or cafateria style but all you can eat. Interesting concept.

Any advice, opinions or suggestions...........

I really want to go to Hawaii. The biggest thing holding us back it the long flight. If we lived in CA we wouldn't hesitate to go.

How about Mexico? There are a lot of all inclusive resorts there. At least there are in Cancun. I think we might go there next year. Baja California might be better for you if you want a shorter flight.

I've seen some good threads on Yellowstone...I think we would like to try that for a summer vacation spot.

Grand Canyon is a 6-10 hour drive depending on where you go. The North Rim has a very nice "lodge" (Hotel).

How about the Canadian Rockies? I've been there a couple times, tons to see and do, and you can make the trip as expensive or budget minded as you'd like. Calgary Stampede and the surrounding festivites are worth the trip in itself!

I would go to Hawaii! Kuaui (sp?) would be my first choice.

Since this is the disboards, I have to ask, did you receive the passholders email from Disney about their vacations outside of the parks? A trip to Wyoming was one of the offerings, Hawaii is available also.

Well your idea of camping cabins fails to meet my top two vacation criteria. Does it have internet? Does it have room service? If one of those is missing it is not a vacation for me. I was not a Hawaii fan. At least Oahu anyway but most everyone likes it and it is a nicer vacation them camping cabins. My favorite vacations have all beien in the caribbean. Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Turks and Caicos, Bahamas. I also loved the Riviera Maya.

All of those locations sound great but since we live in CA airfare is very expensive there. I'm still looking. I don't need room service but would like internet access and cell phone service which many of these locations did not have due to their location .... we're still searching.
