In Nov we have invited my sister, son, and boyfriend to join us for our 2nd ever trip home. Well, my grandparents have also said they would like to go and see their 3 great grand sons in Disney. SO that led to my parents saying they would like to come. THis would mean 11 people. So, here is my quesion. Next month I can book at AKV, which is where we would like to stay(and everyone else), since nobody has told me definately that they will be joining us, I was thinking of booking a studio for my family. Then if the others decide to join I would at that point start inquiring the renting or transfer of points to complete a ressie in a 2 bedroom for the rest. Does that sound like sound logic??? As this will be our sencond UY we do not have enough points ourselves.

Thank you for your input.

But based on posts here previously (no personal experience, please note) I would make your reservation for your immediate family (however you care to define it), and provide the CRO number to everyone else. Tell folks these are the days that you are going, you'd love to hook up with them for various events, meals, etc., and put the ball in their court. Again, no personal experience but I've read a lot of horror stories about relatives who want to come, who come but make time miserable, who come and don't appreciate the joy, etc., etc.

Just my 2 cents.:coffee:

If you do enough research you will realize you need to just book a room for your family - because so many people don't realize how important planning ahead is for DVC. I agree - give the CRO number to the rest and see what happens. As much as you love your family my favorite saying is "you can pick your friends not your family". This can turn into a nightmare - especially when you add in the Dining Plans and/or making dining reservations.

Just my two cents.

I say do whatever you are comfortable with -but be prepared for the consequences.

Family often doesn't understand the ins & outs of DVC. To them it's a "free stay" and if they cancel there is no financial consequence.

So if that isn't a problem for you (but seems like it might be if you need to borrow points for larger accomodations) then go for it. If not, stick with your studio reservation and the CRO number for your family.

I treated DM and DsF for our 1st trip into a 2bdrm with no problem. Now we live with tem as well so it's no big deal but they still don't understand DVC.

When we went to Vero in Aug I booked our studio the a few weeks later they decided to go so I booked them a studio as it was still iffy. Once DsF had a pproval I switched it to a 2bdrm.

So protect yourself and do as you need a Studio right now. Then as they decide collect some money and look for points for rent or Transfer. Also make sure to explain the Mousekeeping this was DsFs biggest thing. But we like it the way DVC has it set up.

Good luck and have a great trip

We have my family of 10 going next summer. All are Disney fiends...that being said, I have learned from reading Dis. We booked a 2 bdrm and a studio. I know my DDs and DF will join us, so we will keep the 2 bdrm if my brothers' families decide not to come. If everyone comes, then my family will take the studio...a little privacy if needed<G> We bought enough points to have a bigger unit for the extended family.

my advice would be...book your studio now and have THEM rent points for their reservations.

After taking both of my sisters, their DH's, and their kids...

You may worry for months that they would cancel...and then wish that they had.:rotfl:

There are several post on here about taking family. I think my sister being miffed that she had a studio instead of a 1 bedroom takes the cake. ~ You get what you pay for, and she paid nothing.

I loved being with the family for a week, and parts of it was good. It really was the agony and the ecstacy at its finest.
