Family suite recommendations

I will be visiting DL with my 5yo and 3yo. I am researching the hotels that offer family suites. I have been to the DL area only once before and stayed at the Embassy Suites North and I would prefer to be a bit closer. Based of my research of Good Neighbor hotels, I have found that the following may offer a separate sleeping area (doesn't matter if it is fully enclosed) for kids, such as a bunk bed or a pull-out.

Tropicana
Sheraton Park
Desert Palms
Cortona
Carousel
Portofino
Anabella

Does anyone have any feedback on any of those places?

Thanks so much
K

None of those, we like RI maingate, great breakfast, grocery shopping, evening managers special, nice pool, etc.

We have reservations for the Cortona in the fall. I have never stayed there but heard it was very nice for a motel. It is right across the street from the toy story parking lot or is close to a lot of ART stops if the 15 minute walk is too far for you family. It has breakfast too.

Thanks - I am not discounting a normal hotel room as an option, but just looking at the separate room/sleeping area for the kids as we are going down for a half-marathon and I would like a decent night sleep. However, price is a factor so I may just have to sleep in the same room as the kids :)

We have a Queen + Bunk Bed room reserved at the Park Vue right now.

Breakfast + a evening meal is what swayed us!

Plus the traveladvisor reviews and location!

We stayed at the Del Sol in May for 4-nights and had the "family suite." Said suite was a regular sized room with a bunk bed crammed into a corner, but if price is an issue, this place was pretty nice.

Pluses:
Dinky Continental breakfast
small laundry room
proximity to the park (closer than Paradise Pier is to the main gate)
Daughter loved the bunk bed
comfortable bed
helpful staff
decent pool

Minuses:
Room is pretty small
lack of parking (we flew so that wasn't an issue.)
not as nice as other nearby hotels

Verdict:
Probably one of the lower-end hotels in the area, but nice price and the location is primo.

Hope this helps.

We are staying at the Park Vue Inn, right across from Disneyland entrance. Our "suite" has a seperate bedroom with two beds. The front room has the tv and a pull-out couch. If you decide to look on their website, pull up the floor plans (you dont see the two room option on their main room page) and it will show you additional options.

Desert inn and suites has lots of suite options for families. Free breakfast but you have to pay for parking.

For kids suites i LOVE LOVE LOVE the Howard Johnson.

We already have it reserved for 3 nights for the Tinkerbell Half and it is at the "Entertainment/AP Retro Rate" of $129/nite plus taxes. This is a great deal. It is two full size rooms that are connected, with 1K and a bunkbed plus a fold out twin sofabed.

It's popular here, so I'm sure you can find more info if you are interested.

The Tinkerbell half start/finish is over near Paradise Pier, so it is a long walk (15-20min) from HoJo. However, it was fine for me.

Desert Inn and Suites and HOJO both have separate sleeping areas. DIS has breakfast; hojo doesn't. HOJO has a really cool swim area called pirates cove. Both are 15 min or less walk to DL. HOJO may have the retro rates available for your visit. We are staying at both of these this summer.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback. I am not eligible for the AP/retro rate at any of these places so I will just pick a place and make a reservation and watch the room rates and discounts. I am going for the Tinkerbell half so I am not sure if the rates will go down for that weekend.

We have stayed in the family suite at the HoJo and at the Camelot Inn.

The Camelot Family suite is very large imo. And it includes a small kitchenette area and even a small dining table that seats 4. In one room is a king bed, pull out sofa, arm chair, armoire w/TV, kitchenette & table area and another armoire for clothing.

in the second room are 2 queens, a small round table and chairs, TV, armoire for clothing and the bathroom. The counter is outside the tub/toilet room and it is very long.

They do offer a small comp breakfast and it is a bit closer than HoJo. But the roof top pool is small and there are no grounds or anything... just a cement parking lot. and it is a motel... outside doors.

We like the HoJo for the reasons others listed above.

Good luck.

You are eligible if you buy an Entertainment Card- they are pretty cheap on ebay!
From this website:
http://www.boards.hojoanaheim.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=13

The Entertainment Card is a discount card that comes with the purchase of the Entertainment Book. The Book/Card can be purchased online at http://www.Entertainment.com. You may purchase the book for your own area and still use the card for rooms at HoJo Anaheim!

Dates are here:

If anything, they will pull the tinkerbell dates soon because they are going to be popular since its MLK weekend as well. Last year HoJo did offer 25% off rooms for the tinkerbell. Other hotels has discounts as well. But we only stay at Hojos- LOVE it. I've also tried the Park Vue Inn and Desert Inn & Suites two-room suites and I hated them.

So yes, HoJo posted on their website that they are offering rooms at 25% off for the half marathons. See:
http://www.boards.hojoanaheim.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=868
From the page:

Disneyland has two half marathon events on the calendar each year and the HoJo is offering 25% off of regular rates for those of you participating! This discount is not combinable with other discounts. To book or for more information just call 800-422-4228 and ask for in-house reservations, or email our in-house reservations team at stay@hojoanaheim.com. Be sure to get in-house reservations as HoJo's central reservations center will not have access to these rates. Book soon as the early bird gets the worm (or insert running metaphor here)!

Here are the upcoming events:

Event #1: Disneyland Half Marathon, August 31 - September 2, 2012, Visit their website for reservations and more info!

Event #2: Tinker Bell Half Marathon, January 18 - 20, 2013, Visit their website for reservations and more info!

I'd call HoJo directly to see if they even have any Kids' Suites left. I think there are only 12 or 16, and they book fast. I have one booked for April 2013 (even though I'm not sure if we're definitely going yet). We absolutely loved it and now I'm so spoiled by having the kids in their own separate room.

See my review and a floor layout in the link in my signature!

You have all been so helpful! This is awesome. I will look at all of these recommendations and make a reservation tonight before it all books up.

Just got back from the Hojo Friday. Had a kids suite at the retro rate. Kids loved their own room, and two full bathrooms were a plus with two teens. The king bed was very comfortable and the pillows were great. Shower pressure was pretty decent on the stronger setting. Very clean, lots of room. Microwave and small fridge in the king room. Mimi's across the street was good too, for breakfast anyway. We did breakfast twice, and then the $25 to-go meal one night at 10:30 after a long day at DCA. We would definitely recommend it!
