Hi! Does anyone remember what they paid and what discount they used for Feb. this year for the Family Suites and ASMu? We're looking into next Feb. and wanted a little extra room as I think my sister may go with. Thanks!:cheer2:

THere have not been any discounts on the suites since they openned (I don't know about AAA discounts). As a general rule suites are normally not included in discounts or promotions. I know alot of us wish they were. Maybe one day when there are more of them to choose from that will change. But you should still always ask when making a reservation because you never know if the rule will change.

You know, its a funny thing you should mention about family suites. My brother may want to go with us to Disney in September and I was pricing what I could for him. He has 2 adults, 3 kids, 6, 11, 16. He could do Port Orleans Riverside because of the extra trundle bed. Would 5 person room capacity work for you? I was amazed that POR was actually cheaper than ASMu suits. If we were to get free dining 7 nights at POR would be $2,271 and ASMu would be $2,505. Not a big difference, but still more. I don't know what it would be for February, but you should check out all your options. Best of luck to you!

There currently are no discounts offered on the AS suites, including AAA. The rack rate for Feb 2007 was $179 per night. With tax, it was $202.27 per night. I got a quote to stay there, but ended up with a split stay between POR and Fort Wilderness cabins.

I have been looking at a family suite for Sept 15-22 if free dining is announced as well, I looked up POR and it is $400.00 cheaper for that week.
Is it nicer? On tripadvisor the reviews of the family suites were either very good or very bad, I am torn.
I thought the suite would be nice because of the bedroom and 2nd bath. We have never stayed onsite, we have always rented a private home so we had 2baths and our own pool.
I thought if free dining was announced the kids would love to stay at "DISNEY". My boys are 4&6 and go to bed early, so the 2 TV's were nice too....
Oh, no sometimes I think all these opinions make me doubt myself...
HELP!

Here is my review of the Family Suites at All Star Music.

Dh and I stayed at new Family Suites at All Star Music September 21,2006.

We stayed in 0416 which is on the ground floor. Room 0418 which was next door was not a Suites so the Suites are not all grouped together.
The living area was the best. There was a small table with 2 blue modern looking chairs by the window area.

The chairs had a small amount of cushioning and curved backs and seemed more conformable (to me) than the old straight back chairs they had in the old All Star Music rooms. The table top was wood grain and there were silhouettes of Mickey all abound the edge in a darker wood color.

The living room area is very roomy when the furniture is the closed position.

When you first enter the room you get a feeling that you can take time to relax and spread out in these rooms. The cramped feeling is not there. there is a sofa, chair and ottoman which fold out into beds. There are two small end tables and soft foot stool for the sofa.

06.jpg

The TV was a 27 inch flat screen and the cabinet had three drawers under the TV area. There were two shelves next to the TV and a cabinet door which opened to reveal 2 more shelves.

I opened up the chair bed and it was very comfortable to lay down on. The back of the chair actually rests on the floor supporting the chair bed when it is folded out into the bed. It was pretty amazing the way they designed the pull out furniture!
The frame of the bed is metal so when I went to get of the chair bed I did feel the metal bars at the edge of the bed.

I tried to get the ottoman into the master bedroom area but I am sorry to say the ottoman is just too wide and will not fit through the door jam.

The sink and closet areas in the suites also have privacy curtains.
The sink areas have 2 shelf cubbies under them for storage and a Kleenex tissue area under them. There are wall mounted hair dryers with the built in amber night lights on the walls by the sinks.

Each dressing area has a privacy curtain, closet area, iron, ironing board and wall safe. The wall safes are the standard size which will hold a wallet a cell phone a small DVD player, a personal CD player, or a few CDs but it is not large enough for a lap top or anything that is more than a couple of inches wide.

9-26-2006-32.jpg

Remember the Suites have 2 bathrooms, 2 dressing areas with privacy curtains, 2 safes, 2 hairdryers, 2 closets, 2 TVs, 2 separate sleeping, areas and 2 TVs.

Here is the layout of the Suite:

ASMusic_FamSuite_layout.jpg

The kitchenette has a lot storage area also.
There was an ice bucket with 6 plastic cups on the countor and a coffeepot with 6 of the throw away foam hot cups.
There were 6 paper plates, 6 paper bowls, Paper towels and a silverware tray on an upper shelf.
The silverware container had 6 sets of plastic ware and a can opener in it.

13.jpg

The kitchenette has a nice size microwave, and the fridge is the larger under the counter dorm fridge. The fridge has small freezer on the top which was big enough to freeze my 3 small ice pacs for my meds. The area for the freezer is not very high. You might be able to put a couple of small water bottles in it to freeze them but a larger water bottle would not be able to fit in the freezer area.

The Master room was nice size and it was nice to have a desk area with a mirror over it so it also sure as a make up area if one chose to it as such.
The TV cabinet had 3 nice size storage drawers. The easy chair next to the bed was nice addition. I enjoyed being able to sit there instead of using a table chair or bed to sit.

The queen size bed was conformable. The AC at newly refurbished has been updated to Cental air style instead of the old under the window style. It worked fine while we were there. Our room was very quiet.

15.jpg

The Master area had enough room for a twin size aero bed if you placed the bed with one end by the window and had it running between the desk and the foot of bed. (You would need to move the desk chair out of the way. )The aero bed would block the access of the Queen size bed from the far side, however. The bed was a Queen.

There were only a few things in our Suite that were different from those pictured on the DIS resorts homepage.

1) The headboard was smaller than the one pictured here taken from the DIS resorts homepage.

2) The tile on the kitchen floor and bathroom floor was tan and navy blue instead of the tan and white in the pictured room.

3) Ironing boards and iron were in each closet area.

Mousekeeping was great.

Mousekeeping left plenty of towels and we were pleasantly surprised by a pair of love bird towel animals when we returned to our room on evening midway through our stay!

The Calypso pool was never crowded even though the Fantasia pool at Movies was closed during the time we stayed Music.

We never waited more than 5-10 minutes for bus and only shared buses on the way back from some of the parks. Music always had its own bus back from MK.

Any questions? Just ask and I will try to answer them.

Linda,

Thank you very much for your insight and photos!
I really liked the idea of a suite and if we get free dining it will be bonus!
I had read on Tripadvisor the walk to the food court and pool were long and the buses were packed and the drivers rude! I can't imagine that at Disney!
Is it worth it to get the ground transportation and insurance through Disney? We had always rented a van since we stayed in Davenport. Or should we look at a town car service, they are about $60.00 each way. I had also read on Tripadvisor some people waited 5 hours for luggage, my sons would not be so patient!
Thanks again, this will be such a surprise for my sons if we go...

I'm sorry, just wanted to ask for some clarification...but, the family suites have never been included in the free dining promotion, right? Is there reason to hope that they might be this year?? :confused3

I just read that on the Frommer's website, I didn't realize it was excluded, well we will have to wait and see what happens I guess....

I just can't handle sharing a bathroom! we have 3 at home and I find it hard having only 1! and the standard hotel rooms are so small too, I will have to figure everything out and it still might be better with suite and no dining....

We are doing two rooms at Pop, I cannot deal with just one bathroom either!! Our little guy isn't potty trained yet, but let me tell you 3 boys, one mom, and one dad trying to share one bathroom :scared1: We are really hoping for the free dining though, b/c our ds11 and ds7 really eat!! They both already eat more than me or their dad  So free dining would really be a $$ saver for us.

my 6 year is vegetarian but eats more than me, my 4 year survives on air at the best of times but really enjoyed the character breakfasts at the last 3 visits. I just thought it would be easier than paying all the time too. So is it just value and moderate standard rooms that are included? The suite has the extra room and tv as well which mom & dad would like... more thinking and planning, lots of time anyway!

As far as I know, the values, moderates, and deluxes are all included. However, there are only a certain number of rooms available at each hotel. I can't wait to try the DDP, the worst part of vacation for me is worrying about how much each meal is going to cost. This time we will get to try new restaurants without Mom having to approve everyone's selection first :) My DS11 is so excited about getting to eat of the adult's menus, he can eat a kids meal in about 2 minutes flat. Then he spends the rest of the meal asking everyone "Are you going to finish that?" :rotfl:

that is my 6 year old! no wonder the 4 year is so thin he never gets a chance! I think we will wait and see if it's announced then decide, I did like the idea of the suite though....

I do agree with you that the suite would be ideal. It would be great to have everyone in the same room, and still have a little room! Good luck with your planning, hope you have a great trip! :)

I booked the suite for end of sept 09 for 5 nights. Will be me and my wife and three kids ages 6,6,8. We havent been to disneyworld, last time I went was as a kid. We took the kids on a disney cruise last year and we thought it was fantastic, which is what got us wanting to do WDW now. I was pretty heart set on the Coronado because it looked so beautiful and almost booked it but they ran out of Jr suites on our date, which was in our price range. So we would have to go with two standard joining rooms instead. Wife and I had hearts set on a cheap suite for a relaxation area and not feel to far from the kids which is why I am now planning the asmus suite. From the pics I see comparing the ASM and the CS the pool area is not as extravagant at the ASM, and the grounds arent either. And of course the theming is different. Is there anything huge we will be missing out on by not doing the adjoined rooms at the Coronado. Is the Coronado worth the extra $650 for two rooms vs a suite for less at the ASM? I dont want to cheat the family out of something they may be missing by not forking over a few more bills. I guess at ASM we still get to take advantage of magic hours, key to the world, room delivery of things bought at the park?
In a nutshell which one will the kids like better and for the extra money at the Coronado will the adults see much more to make you feel like it was worth spending the extra $650. If you stay at a Value can you still visit the other resorts like CB CS or Deluxe resorts pools and swim? And lastly if we go with the ASMU suite which floor is it best to be on? I should also say I went ahead today and booked the ASM suite for our date just to get something. But I am told by disney I can change that to something higher up at any time, so thats what has me thinking now. I want my kids to have the disney experience from the time we enter the motel room, till the time we depart it and head back home.
TIA!
