We are looking to come down a few days early and spend 3 nights at a value before our 7 nights at the Poly. We are a family of 5 so I will need to either book a family suite or 2 standard rooms. I know the family suites are only in AS Movies and my kids really want to stay at AS Sports but of course I have the final say and it will come down to money. We have AAA so I am hoping for a discount. Please give me any and all feedback on which way we should go and why. Also, does anyone know if the Hoops Hotel in AS Sports has refurnished rooms or has stayed in this area recently?

Thanks - :goodvibes

When we were in the planning stages, I strongly considered a Family Suite.

For starters, Disney won't guarantee adjoing rooms. The family suites in All Star Music (not Movies, in case it matters) look wonderful-- two bathrooms, a kitchenette, and a separate room for the kids.

Take a look here and I bet you're convinced: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1072409

I am a family of six. Me my DH and four Dchildren stayed at the music family suite last year. When we walked in we loved the kitchenette and the set up, but after the first night found out the downfalls of the suite. The seperate bedroom for me and DH was great, the kids beds were terrible. They are all pull out and the bar that goes across your back is very uncomfortable in both the pull outs. On top of that it was a pain to put the room back together everymorning or deal with going around the pullouts. We ended up changing the 2nd day to two ajoining rooms. Much better.... We missed the kitchenette but not as much as the kids being able to get a good night sleep. OH SO IMPORTANT IN DISNEY TO GET A GOOD NIGHT SLEEP.... Much to do and need you energy..

Just an fyi - I've checked several times this week and there are no AAA discounts available at the ASFS for the week of 8/10-15. I noticed your sign. had 8/08 as your vacation date. We're 5 and were thinking the suites would be perfect to save money, get extra space/bathroom, but instead we're at POR for the week with AAA.

I don;t know about August, but in july the Family Suites were more expensive than two rooms at ASSR

this has been an ongoing concern of mine as well. as i have been planning for our family of 6 up coming vacation we have decided to go with 2 connecting rooms. as well, you are able to request (no guarantee) that one room have a mini fridge in it. not only will you have the space you need, you'll save time with two full bathrooms and EVERYONE will be able to have the proper sleeping accomodations that they need...:woohoo:

If you are a family of 5 you may want to try Port Orleans. It is a moderate resort with a great pool/slide. They fit 5 by using a trundle that pulls out from one of the other beds. And it costs less than 2 value rooms!

We looked at POR and the ASMu Family Suites for our December trip but decided to to 2 rooms at Pop instead. Through AAA the rate for 2 rooms was only $100 more than POR for the entire week. For a total of 100 bucks more, I love the fact that we will have 2 bathrooms and 4 beds. We are rarely at the hotel, so the pool isn't a big deal. And we stayed at Pop last year and the kids loved it. Just a thought.

There is a 15 dollar a day charge for this fridge.

We are a family of 5 & are going to try Pop this April. I think the 2 rooms would work better for us. More space, 2 tv's, & 2 bathrooms..plus its alittle cheaper at Pop. I like the buses at Pop since they do not share like the other values. I know people who done either & been very happy.

I'd go with the suites. I have three kids, too, ages 11 and under. Disney does try to honor requests, but connecting rooms cannot be promised. I wouldn't want to split up the family if we couldn't get conecting rooms. Dh in one room with a child or two and me in another with a child or two is not my idea of a family vacation.

The suites guarantee your family will all be together. Plus you get the kitchenette, which I imagine is very nice, and a king size bed (or is it queen? either way, it's better than a double!) for Mom and Dad. I like that!:woohoo: :love1: :smokin: :lmao:

definitely be aware thateven though WDW will say "Guaranteed Connecting Rooms for Families" there is no absolute guarantee (for instance, if ony 23 sets of connecting rooms open up that day, and 25 families with "guaranteed connecting rooms for families" check in...2 of those families will be out of luck.)

If you are not willing, in a pinch, to split into 2 NON-connecting rooms, then you have to book the ASMu Family Suite or POR.
