Does anyone know how a family style meal works for only two people? For example, at the Hoop De Doo will 2 of us have to sit with other people, or will we have our own food on a table for 2??
Thanks!

It depends on what type of seating you'll end up at. If I remember right, there are long tables and large round tables. So, yes, you'll most likely as in all dinner shows, sit next to other guests.

We did a family style at WL once and we sat at a big table with lots of other people.

I have been to Ohana's and Wispering canyon. They both have family style meals. We sat at our own tables and had our own food to share. I don't think you would be sharing food items with others...doesn't seem healthy?

We've eaten at LTT, GG, & 'Ohana. (I think that's the only FS restaurants we've been to.) At GG & 'Ohana we were a bigger party (8), & were seated alone. At LTT, it was just the 3 of us, & we were still seated alone. The same goes for HDDR. The 3 of us had our own table.

I agree that communal seating at a FS restaurant is less than appealing. We once ate at a special AP holder meal in AK. We were seated with others. The food we tried was good, but it wasn't a good experience. We were on the end of the table, & the other party didn't seem to have a problem with passing us an empty bowl. When the server tried to bring more, to assure we also had food, they'd grab that up & leave little of it too. Needless to say, we left hungry & would never choose to be in that situation again. Food isn't something I'm willing to fight over. Plus, I agree that that is seems less than sanitary to be sharing dishes with strangers.

I have been there several times and I think I saw tables for 2 near the rear entrance but I’m not really sure. I do know that there are tables for 4. If you were seated with another couple, there would be plenty of food for the entire evening. You will not leave hungry. The show was awesome. I still remember seeing my then 11 year old laughing the hardest I have ever seen. Have a great time…

The only two places that I know of that seat you with others are the Biergarten and the one table service place in Japan. Both of those are to create a more traditional style of dining for those specific meals (for example, communal seating is common in Germany). Oh - and the Sci Fi will seat you with others but you have your own seat in the car.

While you may sit with others at a table, each family has their own food. No need to worry about that! You get your own meals. It is really quite fun seating next to others. I've met some fabulous people!

We enjoy sitting with others at places like Biergarten, it is nice to take a break from the hustle of everything at Disney and meet others....

But family style serving, I am not sure that I would like that?
I would agree with previous post that, strangers touching my food might be a problem for me?
The only place on our schedule that might be this way is Aloha Dinner Show.... is it family serving there?

DH and I went to Ohana last week and they brought us enough food for 4 people! And they kept asking us if we wanted more of anything. The food was amazing and the service was awesome

Family Style serving is your own family gets a "platter" of food. If there are 3 families at a long table, then there would be 3 platters of food. The other people at the table aren't really near your platter. The platters are refilled for each family as needed! So eat and be merry!

Thanks for the info :)

At the Luau, my mom and I had our own table (rather close to another one, but it was separate table for two) and we had our own food trays. So we didn't have to share with another family.
The same at Minnie's LTT dinner.

During the Backstage tour, it was family-style, but with the whole tour group.

What locations, other than Biergarten & Teppan Edo, seat seperate parties at the same table? As I said earlier, we are a party of 3 & have never shared a table, excluding the special AP event at AK. However, we have been seated at tables very close to another party. We avoid TE & Bier., due to the seating style. If there's other locations that seat you at the same table, I'd love to know in advance what they are. FWIW, the AP event did require you share platters with strangers. I won't be attending any more meals like that.

Ohana's has that type of seating also. That's all I can think of other than the Dinner shows. Even then, with the dinner shows, it depends on what table you get as they do have some small tables with the larger seating areas.

It's really not bad sitting with other people. You do have your own food and your not sitting that close to them. I've been to some restaurants were they squeeze you in so close together, cough***Le Cellier**, that you feel like your sharing a table! ;) Biergarten for example is how the seating is in Germany. I've met some great people that way. Of course, you could end up sitting next to annoying people. One time we sat next to this family at Biergarten who was so unhappy with the food, they complained the whole time and ended up leaving and not finishing the meal. They were upset because they couldn't find any hamburgers! :sad2: :lmao:

We have actually gone to the HDDR twice with a party of 2 (mother/daughter trips  ) and for each of those dinners we were seated at our own table and had our own family style dinner served. Once we were seated upstairs on the balcony with a super view, and the other time was right up front but off to one side by the piano player, also a super view!:thumbsup2

Have a great time on your vacation, and enjoy the HDDR :goodvibes

No it does not. At least as of last May seperate parties were not being seated at the same tables. Each party had it's own table and own food service.

Yes...some of the tables are that way....we have eaten there many times and this past may (8-15th) we were there and sat at one of those type tables. They are not in the main part of the dining room, but they ARE there.

Yes, they are as I have had dinner there several times and have had the banquet type seating with other families. I have not seen it at breakfast as I have always been at a single family table but I may just not have noticed it also.
