Family sections on airplanes

I was watching The View today and the ladies were talking about the $45 for carryon luggage. The conversation switched to Barbara Walters mentioning that they should also have a section of the plane for families. What do you think?

Personally, I find some adults just as annoying as I find some kids so it wouldn't really do any good.

Barbara acknowledged that she is already expecting negative feedback from folks.

Yeah, I've had more adults kick the back of my seat than kids, so I don't think it's necessary.

I personally wouldn't want to fly with my children in a family section. My kids are pretty quiet on the airplane, they sit still, color and watch movies with headphones. I "trained them" to be that way from birth. No, in all seriousness, the kids are good travelers so I wouldn't want to be in a section full of other kids who aren't so quiet, even if they were being relatively well-behaved. I guess that's why we don't fly too much.

I am a frequent flyer. Kids don't usually bother me on a plane.

I was watching Dr. Phil yesterday at the gym and they had overweight people who were wanting a section with larger seats to accommodate them.

So there would be a Family section and now a Traditionally Built section???

I hope this was all said in jest. I am no fan of the airlines, but come on, how are they supposed to cater to everyone's wants/wishes!

I would pay cash money to never be by a fussy child on an airplane.

Not that it bothers me, but my husband is impossible to be next to when there is a crying or fussy baby. He can't stand it.

I don't have kids and I fly often. I can't remember EVER being bothered by a kid on a plane (ok, maybe once but it was a baby screaming it's head off and it wouldn't have mattered if the baby was on top of the plane EVERYONE could hear it like it was right next to them, luckily it was right before we were landing [but it's not like you can really do anything with a crying baby anyways on a plane ]). Now I have been bothered by:

*a guy asking if he could hold my hand throughout the entire flight
*woke up on a flight back from WDW to a guy in front of me (who was drunk) turned around and rubbing my nose
*a bawling, sobbing, crying mess of a teenage girl who had (apparently from the phone call I witnessed before the plane took off) just had her boyfriend break up with her and proceeded to whine and cry the whole 2 hour flight
*a lady eating 4 chili/cheese/onion dogs that she got from the terminal and brought to eat beside me on the plane
*numerous people singing out loud to the music they're listening to
*people who are together but apparently didn't get seats together and then try to have a 2 hour conversation 5 rows apart

Where's the section to throw those people in?

you know, you just gotta roll the dice sometimes, odds are who you sit near on a plane isn't going to alter your life a whole lot..why do restrictions have to be put on every little thing? I think the *chill* attitude should be implemented a bit more.

Threads like this make me nervous.

In July, we will be flying from Chicago to Hawaii (changing planes in California). This will be the first time ever that my youngest DD will be on a plane. She is disabled and can have "inappropriate behavior". This is most likely displayed as laughing at the wrong time (like when someone else is hurt or crying) or for no reason at all. Other than that, she is nonverbal. She also has some issues with her ears so I have no idea what to expect.

The trip is being planned by Make A Wish so I'm thinking that the staff on the plane will know but not the other passengers.

What is needed is a time out section. Flight attendents could send anyone who misbehaves (regardless of age) to that section. Then they could bother each other!

Personally I want all the people who have large carryons in the back of the plane so I don't have to wait for them to be yanked out of the overhead bins before I can get off.

I've had the random kid kicking the back of my seat before, but my worst flight was from Rome to NY. I was just finishing up my European vacation and wanted nothing more to sleep on the flight home. There was an Italian Youth Group on the flight (about 100 teenagers) with about 5 priests that were apparently some of their chaperones. These kids were so obnoxious, and one of the priests was just as bad. Am I going to go to hell for saying that? The flight crew took many complaints from the rest of us on the flight but as much as they tried to help, these kids wouldn't listen.

They have a section with wider seats, it's called first class.

This would be good-especially if you can send all the LOUD TALKERS to that section too!! We have only had one flight where a kid was disturbing everyone-I don't count crying babies in that group though--but we have had MORE flights where people behind us talk and LAUGH so loud it gives you a headache.

Yeah, I usually get sat by people like this too -- "hey kids remember when you asked how a baby is made?"

I would any day of the week take crying babies and noisy kids over the drunk guy talking about how he would rape his wife if they were ever apart for a few months, the college spring breakers giving each other frenching lessons, and all of the other adult idiots I have witnessed. Of course I have a few kids so I guess I am biased

Oh, ME TOO!!!!!!!!!
I swear, they removed the pillows off of planes because they know I'd stuff a pillow over a screaming baby's head if I have to listen to it wail for a SIXTH straight hour of the trip. I notice the infants are ALWAYS right in the middle of the plane so BOTH ends have to hear the screaming infant.

Really, there should be "infant free" flights. I'd pay more for that. At least put the infants at the back of the plane. But, the flight attendants don't want that noise near them, either. They can't put te infants near the front as the noise will disturb the First Class passengers.

At least, create the "cone of silence" that was used in the TV show, Get Smart. Only, make one that works!

Kids are not the ones taking down planes. Adults are. I'll take a plane full of kids anyday! When I'm on my way to Disney nothing bothers me!

How about a couple having an affair who didn't get A or B boarding passes on SW?

A few years back, DD and I were at MCO heading back home. We were sitting near a couple who looked together, but I heard them each call their SO and say they would be landing at such and such time!

Then DD and I get on earler then they do and we sit way in the back. Here they come, the guy tries to get someone else to move and saying that he and his "wife" just got married, but no one would budge. It was a packed plane. THe girl sits next to me and the guy sits in the sit in front of her.

At one point, he reaches his arm behind him and ended up trying to feel my leg. I was like, this isn't her leg. The girl looked so embarassed. If they did get seats together, they would have probably told to get a room because they were all over each other in the gate area seating.
