Family Road Trip in a Prius

Has anyone done it? We have one, and are considering driving from Chicago to WDW in it. It would cost us in the neighborhood of only 220.00 if we go this route! That makes driving worthwhile for me...using our van would save some money, but this would save almost 800.00 (if we get a decent fare should we decide to fly)...that is a lot of money!

So, any Prius owner out there that have done it? How did it go? Was it an uncomfortable trip? My boys love being in the backseat together, and it's actually a little more comfortable for them because they have somewhere to put their heads when they go to sleep (the baby is in a big carseat and the older two are in boosters). But, I guess I'm wondering how comfortable we would be.

TIA!

If the kids are all in car seats, does it matter to them what kind of car it is?

Only you (and DH) would feel any difference.

My only concern would be would you have enough room to pack the stuff you need? Or could you ship some of your luggage ahead of time???

5 in a Prius? Three carseats? Can you even buckle them all without them crushing one another? I cannot get 3 carseats unsquished in my Hummer.

As I said, they love it. We have done shorter trips in it many times. I think they like the cozy feeling...being able to put their heads on something when they fall asleep, etc. The minivan is less comfortable, in their opinion.

I am hoping that someone who has experience road tripping in their Prius wants to chime in. They're not made for luxury, that's for sure. Was it really uncomfortable, long term?

I have several friends who drive their Prius' on long road trips. They all love them and I've never heard any of them complain about it being uncomfortable. In fact, my neighbors just left for the Florida Keys in their Prius yesterday, driving from Illinois.....A drive they have made at least once a year for many years in that car. They also regularly (as in every other month) drive it to Austin Texas from here which I believe is about a 14 hour drive.

My concern would be luggage space. DH had one for work and I recall the trunk not being all that big.
