Ok I don't know if it has to do with YOMD but how do u become the family of the day that comes in on the train at the opening of MK?? Do you just get there super early??

I would die if we got picked to be family of the day.

ok so i would def die also. unfortunetly we dont have a morning planned at MK for our upcoming vacation in 2 weeks. maybe ill have to fix that....:rolleyes1

Is this something my fiance & I could get picked for or is it generally a bigger family w/children? I understand if it is - just wondering if it was a possibility since we'll be at a EMH rope drop this summer :goodvibes

well I am not positive but when my BF and I were in MGM in July we were first at the turnstiles and got picked to be family of the day for the tower of terror. We were taken behind the scenes and were the first family to ride and we got to ride all by ourselves. It was amazing. Disney usually doesn't take a family for having kids so i would say that we both have a good shot. :goodvibes

We were selected as Family Of The Day at Epcot back in October. And yes, we got there early. We went right to the rope drop area and my daughter struck up a conversation with a CM and after a little bit another came over and said we were selected as the FOTD. We didn't plan, heck we didn't even know about it!! It was our first day at the parks for that trip.

We were led under the ropes where we met with cast members and then had our photos taken with Mickey, Minnie, well here's a photo so you can see:

OMG, you should have seen the excitement on my daughters faces, they were absolutely beaming, it was amazing.

We were introduced to the crowd. A Test Track car was driven over and we were whisked away after the countdown so we could ride TT twice in a row. It was awesome, after the first round on TT our car came to a halt and the CM looked at the lady who was waiting in line and said, "Those are VIP's, they are the Epcot Family of the Day".

Then we were also given 3 fastpasses we could use on any FP ride, but we ended up keeping them as souvineers. We also got special buttons that said "Honorary Citizens of WDW".

We also got picked as the Epcot Family of the Day. We were the first ones in line before the park opened and made our ways to the rope as quickly as possible. A wonderful cast member immediately came over to us and asked us to go under the rope....so we did and then he told us we were the family of the day. It was the most amazing experience and one I will never forget! It was truly magical!! SO my advice, arrive early!!!!

we were picked at the magic kingdom... my girls kids were in matching shirts and they were singing along with the music a woman came up and asked my younger daughter if she was excited to be at Disney she said yes then the lady asked her if her family wanted to open the park (at the time we thought opening the park was like it was 2 years before when we had been there kids with wands and pixie dust ...) DD told her she would do a cartwheel if she got to open the park. the lady made her do one then they took us all in and put us on a firetruck at that point I said so this is different than waving a want and tossing pixie dust huh it was awesome... here are some pictures we got that day

About a half hour at Epcot.

The key is, at the start of the day they open ALL (I repeat ALL) the gates, not just the middle one where everyone lines up. (shhhhh, that's just a secret between you and I)

Thanks can you see the side gates are you talking about somewhere else,,sorry this will be my first rope drop.

As you walk in from the parking lot, bus drop, or monorail, you will go right to the middle of the entrance plaza for a bag check. After the bag check walk past the ticket windows and more than likely there will already be people lined up in the middle. However, veer off to the right and there will be a bunch of gates with turnstiles behind them. Everyone of the gates from the middle all the way to the far right end will open at the same time. Just pick the shortes line, or the line with nobody in it. Cast memember may not show up until just a minute or two before opening, but it will open.

Is this always the case? i'd hate to be standing in a line all by myself then no one come and open up the gate. I'd feel "goofy".

Yes, they open all of them on the right side. It will seem weird to see a huge line right there in the middle, and nobody at the other gates. But rest assured that they will open all the gates.

I always wondered at disneyland how people knew which lines to line up in...lol I would always just "go with the flow"...lol
