Ok so the cruise we are planning will be our fourth Disney Cruise. The only thing my little boy has asked is that we get to be the "family of the day" - the first family invited to walk through the mouse ears and board the ship.

Anyone know how I can go about trying to make this happen for him? Is there someone I can write or call to request such an honor?

Thanks in advance for any info

The family of the day is selected by a random CM at check in (you don't know who it's going to be, and neither do they). It could be the person who checks you in, or the person directing people to the proper line, no way of knowing. I doubt that you can do anything ahead of time to ensure this will happen.

But, that said, dressing alike in cute Disney-themed shirts probably wouldn't hurt.

Also be aware that if a make-a-wish family is on board, they will most likely be chosen for family of the day.

Seems like it is usually first timers, or maybe that is just our experience.

You know, I've never been aware of the Family of the Day. Maybe we board too late? Or we're too interested in what we're doing to pay attention to what others are doing.

We were chosen as family of the day our first cruise. A CM was clearly walking around looking for someone as we were checking in. We were wearing matching mickey shirts and we're first timers which I think helped. It was fun to be announced and board first. With that said it seems random so I don't think you can request it. Though being there early, excited, friendly and matching seems to help.

We usually get to the port pretty early, and I can't say I've ever noticed the "family of the day" at PC either. If they make an announcement, I've never heard it. I guess you really can't put these folks up high for everyone to see and make a big to-do like at WDW.

What does this family get besides early boarding?

Possibly a free pic with Captain Mickey, we were next in line for Mickey and they were put in front of us. We were told they were the "Family of the Day".
After they took their pic they were introduced and walked on the ship.

A well-placed $20 in the right hand may do the trick.

We got a picture with mickey and Minnie as they switched. They then announced us and we boarded first. We got a certificate saying we were family of the day. That was the extent. It was pretty cool for our first cruise!

We have just sailed the fantasy in January (the famous mechanical issue sailing)
Having only sailed concierge I'm not sure how the boarding goes after we get on but I was just wondering if the lucky Family of the day gets blue tickets and waits in the concierge lounge? I only ask because in January we noticed that there was a group waiting in the lounge with us that we're asked to line up and go in through the doors prior to the rest of the concierge guests...and I just assumed that this was perhaps the grand suite guests but I'm now rethinking that it was the family of the day?? How fun for some unsuspecting sailors! Gotta love Disney!!!!

Back-to-back guests get a special boarding pass (for us it was green, I think), wait in the Concierge Lounge, and are boarded just prior to Concierge.

We were chosen on the Magic for our first cruise as family of the day! It was so special and fun! We all loved it!

Not cruise related, but if you want to be the family to open Hollywood Studios Park, get there for the morning extra magic hours on a day when they don't have extra magic hours :-). One of my adult daughters did a lot of the arrangements for our last trip to WDW thought there were morning extra magic hours one day and the grownups who want to ride Tower of Terror and/or RocK N Roller Coaster went there early to do them. The grandkids and moms who didn't want to ride them stayed at the resort and were going to meet us after regular park opening. Guess the cast member took pity on us and offered to let us do the park opening ceremony. Called the reset of the family to hurry to the park so they could participate as well.
