POR worked fine for us with the trundle!!!!!!
We are a family of five who has stayed 6-7 times at POR without feeling crowded or cramped. I would also like to add that we have stayed at Contemporary many times as well as GF(once), Poly, Beach Club Villas and Yacht Club. We spent 10 days every other year at WDW over the holiday season, so the POR rates were much more attractive than a deluxe or two rooms for that time period.
Our three kids are all boys---I'm not so sure if the one bathroom is adequate with one or more of the kids being a teenage girl. We did have the boys shower in the evening and DH and I showered in the morning or after the boys were asleep at night. We found that kept the morning hustle and bustle to a minimum.
We spend very little time in our room---primarily just to sleep and possibly to change for the pool, but that is about it. Keep that trundle under the second bed when the trundle is not in use and that gives lots more room than keeping the trundle out.
LOL! When the boys got older, the youngest did look a bit 'large' sleeping in the trundle bed at almost 6 feet tall when he was 13 years old. But he said he had no trouble sleeping there. Plus, it was his bed since he was five years old.
Going to a deluxe will not always give you more room. We were disappointed when we stayed at GF and saw that those rooms were noticeably smaller than CR or Poly.
With the Christmas holiday rates so high, we felt POR was very economical and gave us the opportunity to spend lots of money elsewhere on the vacation. Plus, the grounds are the most beautiful on property (IMHO) and the boys love that food court.
Give the POR a try for your family of five.
