Out of curiousity, what is the best resort to comfortably fit a family of 5 in one hotel room (kids ages 7, 10, and 13)? Is it possible without just giving in to getting 2 adjoining rooms?

You do do POR comfortably I believe, since you kids are the ages they are. We did it fine. Now they are all teens, I am considering doing the 2 rooms, to have 2 bathrooms.

AKL was nice for our family of 5 (kids ages 7, 2, 1). There was even room for the pack & play. But, I don't know about teens sharing one bathroom with you. Our family also fit well in CBR but, since your kids aren't in a pack & play;) I don't know if you would be "allowed" 5 in a moderate.

The only moderate that you can stay in is the POR. I have 3 kids aged 7, 11, and 15. The last time we went was 2 years ago and we're going again in March. We stayed at POR last time and we're booked there now again. I know the deluxe resorts are a little bigger and we considered BC or POLY but I can't convince myself that it's worth paying twice as much as POR. The trundle bed works really well for anyone under I would say an average 10 year old size. Our DS 11 yr old will probably sleep in it and the girls will take the bed. He's a little smaller than average for an 11 yr old.

POR in the alligator bayou section is the only place you can have 5 in one room in any value or moderates(unless one of those 5 is a child under 3). They have 2 doubles and a trundle bed that rolls under one of the doubles. It won't exactly be roomy, but we were fine there with 2 adults and 4 kids (10,7,4,1) and would be happy to stay there again.
The trundle bed is supposed to accomodate a child under 10. I can't personally comment on it because our room was missing the trundle bed. We called the front desk and they brought a rollaway bed instead. Maybe they had a shortage of trundles, I don't know.

I think most of the deluxes can accomodate 5 people in their regular rooms. But I thought at AKL and WL, the standard rooms could only have 4 and you had to get a deluxe room to have 5 people. I'm not positive though.

FW cabins are great for larger families, plus they give the parents a little privacy.

Depends on you. I know I would not want to stay at POR with 3 kids. I thought WL rooms were pretty small with 2 kids.......

we have boys 14,13, & 11. We opted for the two rooms - adjoining. this gives us 4 beds and 2 bathrooms, and a little more space. It was only a little more money than POR.

You don't rule out staying in a deluxe resort. the Polynesian and the Contemporary have most of their rooms with two beds and one twin-size daybed.

Just a word of caution: "Adjoining" means next to each other WITHOUT a connecting door. Make sure you ask for "Connecting."

The Poly and the Contemporary have some of the largest rooms on property. I think they're about 425 square feet. Our family of five with full size teens were extremely comfortable at the Poly. We liked having queen beds instead of double. What we really missed was two bathrooms. Not sure I want to do that again. It took us FOREVER to get ready in the mornings and guess who had to get up the earliest to get it started!

Thanks. I just assumed that adjoining ment connecting. I will have to look into that.

When our kids were about the ages as yours, we fit very comfortably in POR Alligator Bayou rooms ( youngest child slept on the trundle bed ). The kids loved the activities at POR. Now that they're older ( and bigger! ) we stay at the CR. Have a great time planning your trip :)
