WE are looking into maybe cruising next year - what are the options for space for a family of 5? myself, DH, DD age 17, DD 14 and DS 9. Any suggestions on what category or cabin would work best for us?

For one cabin you are limited to a category 4 or higher. A better choice may be 2 connecting cabins. More privacy for Mom & Dad and 2 bathrooms.

Two connecting CAT-10's (as tstobb suggested) would be the least expensive for a pseudo-suite

We are going in Aug. We have two DD's 16 and 13 and a DS age 6. It was ALOT cheaper to get two different cabins than connecting cabins or a cat. 4 cabin. We have a cat 6 and right across the hall a cat. 11. Hope this helps.

I was going to make the same suggestion as tink5. You'll have to book it with one of the adults "officially" in the cabin but the girls can sleep there by themselves and feel "grown up" if you're confortable with the arrangement. A 17 and a 14 are old enough to enjoy the privacy of their "own" cabin.

That way you're only paying for a cat 6 and a cat 11 but the whole family has the use of the verandah. Guest services can give you additional KTTW cards so everyone has access to both rooms.

This year it's non connceting 8 and 10.
Single best peice of advice I can give you. If you don't want "squabbles" about who sleeps where, I instituted the "he who gets in first at night gets to choose where they sleep rule." It really cut down on the amount of bickering in the kids room.;)

We are a family of 5 also. DS 15, DS 13, DD 11. We had to book with DVC to get on the cruise. We have them across the hall also. My rule, if not in by the time I tell you at night. We will be attached to one another the whole next day. I have the same feeling as many others, a little nervous about doing this but feel at their ages, and being across the hall this is the best we can do and still enjoy a family cruise.

Someone did tell me when the kids are in the room to put a small piece of tape over the door if you think they might go out past curfew. This way you can tell if the tape has been broken. Not sure about that one. I THINK I can trust mine enough.
