Hi Everyone!!!

We are planning a huge vacation this summer, starting in Disneyland - 4 nights (june) then onto Hawaii!!!!

We are a family of 5 , so I need some help with hotel/room recommendations. The kids will be 14 dd, 10ds, 8 dd. Would you go two rooms with a connecting door? A suite? or a regular room with a cot? and do the hotels provide cots? ( I know in the past some did not do to fire hazard). We are not planning on being in the room much, but would like to be close to the parks. In terms of costs, obviously the one room and suites are less $$$$.

An included breakfast would be a great bonus!

We went to DLR in Dec. with 5 people in one room and stayed at the HoJo (Howard Johnson Anaheim), they offer a rollaway bed for $10 extra per night and there is plenty of room in the room for it. They don't serve breakfast, though, but do have a fridge and micro and we had cereal, oatmeal, some sort of sausage breakfast sandwichy things that DH and DS love, plus yogurt and muffins. It worked out well for us.

We had NQQ2 rooms which have 2 queen beds, one bath, chair, desk w/chair and table w/2 chairs - so altogether we had 3 chairs to use at the table and it worked really well because we made our kids eat at the table. Oh yeah, and a coffee pot and plenty of storage so you don't look like you trashed the room just by putting your groceries down. I also asked for the upgraded beds and bedding when I made our ressie and the beds were extremely comfy.

The Best Western Park Place Inn has mini suites that will accomodate up to six people. I love those suites! You get two queen beds, a sofa bed (double) and you do get a free breakfast. It is literally right across the street to the parks, you walk less than five minutes to get to the turnstiles.

The Hojo is also very nice, it has grounds and a nice little mini water park. The rooms are oversized. But no free breakfast and the walk is longer.

The Hojo has more atmosphere and you can get very good discounts with their Entertainment Card rate. Definitely visit that link above to see if your dates in June are listed. Even if they are not, they may open up those dates at a later time. At the very least, the Ent card gives you a 15% discount. They also offer AAA discounts. Its a great hotel. But those mini suites at the Best Western and its primo location and the free breakfast are also hard to beat!

We prefer a suite or condo when we vacation (my kids are 14, 12 and 9), but we'll be staying at HoJo in a premium room this summer. When we do Disney, we generally suck it up and stay in one room because we prefer to spend the extra money on food and souvenirs rather than having room to spread out. As a PP said, we won't be spending too much time in the room anyway.

firefly/ amy and dan - I will look into the best western, didnt know about the mini suites that sleep 6!

Brady's mom - I was thinking about hojos as well, I dont think the ent. rates are during the time we will be going -will have to compare prices with bwestern.

brermom - yes, we like the condo option as well - in november when we went to orlando for a convention (and also to take in some universal and disney)
we stayed at a place called windsor hills - beautiful townhome, splash pool, 3 bdr, 3 ba at @ 1100 for 9 nights LOVED IT - the space, kitchen - everything..... dh and i decided we could not go back to regular hotel room if staying longer than a few nights.

thanks leo and mnasf!!!! i will definitely look into best western and desert inn.
I need to figure out whether my best bet is to book it all myself via expedia or an internet travel agency, or someplace local....

Desert Inn is nice but I don't care for that indoor pool in the summer time. Best Western prices are good right now, I was able to book a mini suite with an AAA discount for $116 (plus tax) which includes the free breakfast. Hojo is generally cheaper than BWPPI even without the Ent rate. But no free breakfast. Although the free breakfast at BWPPI is nothing to write home about, its free and every little bit saved helps! The hojo does have a nice little store that sells things very reasonably (cereal, milk etc) and you also pass a McDonald's on your way into Disneyland. So there's reasonable options for breakfast at the Hojo.

Yes you can. All rooms at the DLH have two beds and either a daybed or a rollaway. Rollaways are free at the DLH. I believe GCH and PP accomodate five as well. PP rooms also have daybeds. GCH has either bunkbeds, a daybed or they will provide a free sleeping bag and mat for the fifth person. The DLH and PP rooms are very nice sized and spacious.

She could always check out an Anaheim Plaza suite. The pool is HUGE AND BEAUTIFUL, but no free Breakfast, although kids eat free with paid adult.

We ended up with Embassy Suites with 5 of us last time it would work for 5, they have one bedroom separate from the livingroom, with two queen beds, and a pull out couch bed. They have a huge breakfast, and I took bagels and apples for snacks in the park.
