Family Joining Mid-trip. Reservations at 180 days

We have two families going to Disney next October. The dates only overlap for a few nights. At 180 days can the family arriving first make reservations for the whole group for the nights later in the stay when the second family is joining? It would only be for the nights the entire group is trying to dine together. Or do we need to wait for the second family's 180 day mark to open? I have tried to look through the forums but was unsuccessful finding the answer. Sorry if I missed it!

If you are making on reservation for each meal, either party can do it at their 180-day mark. You just make it for the correct # of guests. You don't have to tell who is dining, the only name you have to give is the person making the reservation.
