Ugh!!! Now it is all coming back to me why I've taken my family to WDW the past 2 Christmases. Just got back from a family picnic and it was really annoying. Everyone thinks they are better than everyone and no one bothers talking to me or my kids because I am a single mom and don't have much money...so I guess I'm not worth it!!!

I attend "other peoples" get togthers

Go to a public park on any Sunday find a large crowd, pretend you are related to people

eat drink...leave

:grouphug: I've sort of been down that road before. When dd15 was very young, my stepSIL cast me as an outsider b/c I was a poor single low-life mom. Funny thing is she didn't work at all, her husband supported her butt. Now I'm a single mom once again, Office Manager and going for my realtor's license. I'm completely self-supportive, and she still relies on her husband even tho her kids are teens. She has everything handed to her by her husband and the family, yet looks down on me. I work my butt off for what I have and am proud of it. Don't let them get to you. Just imagine that most of them probably would fall apart if they had to live in your shoes. :grouphug:

Thanks for the advice! You know it's just so annoying! You come home feeling depressed. My daughter graduated from 8th grade we had a very low key get together. Today my sister had a huge party for her daughter who also graduated from 8th grade. Don't get me wrong, thats very nice but I just don't like the way I am treated...it's not even that...it's the way other people act...brag, brag, brag. My brother, who is a doctor barely talks to me...I guess he just wouldn't want to lower himself! My children don't have a father (he doesn't bother with them), so you would think my brother would step in at least to be a good uncle for them. My poor son at school had to do a fathers day project and the teacher said well, if you don't have a father to send this card to send it to an uncle...my son had to make up a fictional person!!! That's why I go on my vacations, hope my kids do well in school, hope they do well in life, hope that I stay healthy and just the heck with everyone, ya know?????

That is really sad that your brother wouldn't step up and become somewhat of a father figure to his nephew. I'm sure he's busy being a doctor and all, but there are little things he could do to make a difference in your son's life. My family was always small, by choice. Large extended family, but everyone was always pissed at someone for something. My mom, sister and I just kept to ourselves. Yeah, at times I wished I had a large family like others, but my mom taught us to stay tight and close. It didn't matter that it was just the 3 of us, we were close and that's all that mattered. I hope to teach my kids the same thing. You're doing right by your kids.

Ya know what, next time tell your son to just make it for you. My daughter made me a Happy Father's Day project at Day Care when she was younger and it was the best gift I ever got. It made her feel better, too, rather than feeling left out. It was actually the teacher's idea and I was totally impressed that they did that for her.

I feel like that at school. Most parents don't talk to me, I think cause I'm a single mom (widow) and I dont' have a lot of money and I don't have a house (yet) or maybe cause I look different from them? Parent gather up and start talking while waiting for their kids to come out, while I'm there standing by myself waiting for my kids to come out. I smile to them and sometimes say hi, but some just seem to just ignore me like I don't even exist. And this is a Catholic school... where the love there?

:confused3 :confused3 Are we related?? The sinsiter in laws wont even speak to me, they think, inspite of us being marrried 20+ years, that I married their baby brother for his money. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao: Little do they know, I was making more money than him! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Oh honestly!!! This is a timely post...

Tomorrow I am off to my husbands mothers home for the afternoon. Once every summer, and once around christmas. And 9 times out of 10 it ends up being a nightmare. These people are unbelievable. It NEVER is an enjoyable experience, at this point in my life I truly just dont have the patience to "play along" any longer.

Its been 20 years now, get over it.....but, they just never will.....

Sheesh, I really was putting off thinking about it till tomorrow. Now its bedtime and I'll probably have nightmares!

I cant wait to get home and I havent even left yet....

I thought this said "ghettogathers"

I was like, yup, that's about what my family reunions are like :rotfl:

Yup! Catholic Schools...went for 12 years and I swore I wouldn't do that to my kids. In some districts I think you almost have to but fortunately where I live the public schools are ok. It seems like the a lot of the people in Catholic Schools are like what you describe...not as accepting as parents you would find in public school. I don't know...thats just my opinion.
Isn't there a saying: "The only one who can make you feel down on yourself is you."...but when people treat you this way, it's awfully hard not to feel down???!!!

It's not just Catholic schools. My dd's go to public school. One is in high school, the other one is in elementary. Alot of the parents at both schools are the same way.

My mom's family is like that - omgosh - all they talk about is material things. My dad's side of the family is more down to earth. I'm a lot closer to my dad's side. :)

 Too bad your relatives don't realize how much they are missing out on not getting to know the real you & your kids.
