Does anyone know anything about the Family Fun Run? I know i read its 5k. I have the date and time also. But has anyone ever done this race before? What are the time requirements?? Can the race be walked??? Or does it have to be run?? I have a friend whos going to be running the Half marathon but we figured this may be something a little less intense for some of us and maybe we can do it. Thanks for any info!

It can be walked. My dad, DH, DS & 2 nieces did the race last year. I think it is going to be much better organized this year since it has its own day & location. Last year they were 45 min late starting because of having to finish the 1/2 mary & change the finish line sign from half to finish line for 5k. The pace requirement is 15 min/mile but they were not strict with that at all. My dad had a cramp in his leg & came in at about 56-58 min. Way over the time requirement & he was no where near last, nor were they shutting down the finish line yet.

I would def recomend it, you get a great course & a cool t-shirt. Their theme is usually based of their hit movie from the year before. This year it was Chicken Little & I bet in 2007 it will be Cars.

My family is wogging it again so I'll see you there!

We just saw Cars on the 3rd and I kept thinking they need to use that theme for this year's 5K. Lightning McQueen!!!! They do that and Susan will be like Lightning signing up! :thumbsup2

We walked it last year and didn't have any problems with the pacing. We were trying to hold back since we were doing the marathon the next day. If it is Cars then we may have to figure out a way to do it again. DS was carried last year except for the last few feet but he is getting a little heavy to do that again.

Thanks for all of the information. Does anyone know how early you have to get there to do the walk? Do they have special busses like they do for the marathon runners? Also after you finish the race what happens? is it a long process to get your t-shirt and medal? Sounds like it'll be a lot of fun. Hopefully the Old Folks can keep the pace in order to finish!

The walkers and runners all start at the same time. They ask that the walkers go towards the back so they don't interfere with the runners but this usually doesn't happen.

Most likely they won't have special buses since they don't for any other smaller races so you will probably have to drive. Getting there an hour before the race will enable you to miss most of the traffic and have a chance to use the port-a-potties.

After you pass the finish line, you will go into an area where you will get your medal. They will probably have 6-10 people handing out medals so it goes quickly. You can then get a picture against the official background if you want but this isn't required. You get the T-Shirt at packet pickup the day before. Then there is an area where they have some snacks and drinks you can get if you want. It doesn't take long at all.

Is the race timed with a Champion Chip?

It hasn't been in the past. They do have a clock that you can look at when you cross the finish line and they will probably get pictures of you when you cross that have the time listed. Otherwise if you don't pay attention, you won't know your time.
