Ok, we have the hotel reserved, itinerary planned out now I need family friendly budget minded fare for our rumbly tumblies for late lunches/dinners. We plan to hit the various cafe's at the museums and such for snacks/lunch, breakfast is provided at our hotel but we are up in the air about dinner. We are staying in the Embassy Suites 1250 22 St nw, Washington, DC 20037

Thank you!

I would plan on having food in your hotel as prices are pretty high in DC for food, especially dinner. I would plan on close to $100 for your family for dinner there. We did think the prices at 5 Guys Hamburger Place were reasonable for what you got. I think a burger, fries and a drink were about $8/person or so. Pretty much every where else was double that.

Hard rock cafe is nice. Its not too pricey. Its a bit loud at times but theres lots of things to see along the way from the metro stop (fords theater, souvineer shops) to get there. Really its somthing you need to experance. I get a basic meal (Bacon cheese buger, fries, soda) and its around $10 but you can get the big appitizer plate and feed two people for 10 bucks too.

I will agree with Five Guys. I can usually get my lunch there for about $7 if I get the fries. A fries order is very large so they can be split between two people. It is counter service so you don't have to tip. I also like Cosi which is a sandwich cafe that makes GREAT flatbread sandwiches, flatbread pizza, awesome salads, and the do offer dinner entrees but I haven't eaten there in the evening. Very good. Also counter service there, so no tipping.

Make sure you check out the prices out at the museums' cafeterias before your order because they can be very expensive. We made the mistake of ordering and not really checking out the prices and were shocked when we got to the cash register (this was at the Smithsonian.) The American Indian Museum cafeteria is our favorite; lots of variety.

NANDOS!!!!! IF you have never had it, it is a worldwide chain restaurant that is just coming to the US. Check it out and thank me later.

The museum cafes are definitely expensive. You may want to keep your eyes open for local diners while walking to and from your locations for the day. There are lots of great spots that you'll find cheaper than the museums. Unfortunately, most of them will be a few blocks off the mall.

Before you go, check out joining the Smithsonian as a "Member"(not sure of the price). You'll get discounts on souvenirs plus (I *think*) you also get a discount on the Smithsonian cafe's.

A PP is right, those places can be expensive.

agnes!
