We signed up for this race in January, excited to be part of the Marathon Weekend. Figuring it will provide motivation for me, as I want to work up to the Half Marathon next year, and it also falls on my 41st birthday. We registered in the stroller division so we can take our kids (2 and 3) with us. Everyone--including the kids--is very excited about doing this. We're trying to become an active family and love doing things like this together.

Anyway, got our "final" race instructions today and was stunned to find that, as we will be pushing a stroller, we have to WALK the course and aren't allowed to run? Can anyone who's done this race before confirm this? If true, this would be the first 5K I've ever done where anyone pushing a stroller can't run. I know it sounds petty, but I really enjoy training for things like this and to be told I have to walk is really disappointing. Not to mention we're paying over $100 to WALK through Epcot...something we do fairly regularly anyway as passholders.

Don't get me wrong, if that's the rule, we'll abide...but I didn't see ANYTHING about this before we registered. And, yes, I did look everything over carefully.

I'm so glad you posted this! To be honest, I haven't read through the final race instructions yet. I can say that last year people were allowed to run with strollers. DH ran with one to catch up to my Mom and me, and then we did a walk jog. There were plenty of people actually running pretty quickly with them.

Maybe they changed their policy? I didn't see anything in the registration materials when signing up about this, though, either.

Regardless, it IS a fun time, and good luck in your training for next years half!

I think it the same as headphones - they were also forbidden on paper to keep the race directors insurance policy.

If you have not seen a map of the course, you have lots of room just after the start to run. Its a parking lot. Once you get in tot he back stage areas, it gets a little tight. Stay with your crowds pace behind Mexico.

Also, you leave the stage area near the iGate. While back stage behind Great Britain beware of the really deep drainage grill!

Just go out and have a great run. I expect to hear you have a great 20 minute run ;)

Here is a real map

Thanks for the responses, guys. The insurance thing is the first thing that popped into my head, too. I sent an email to the race organizers and asked for clarification, but didn't get anything back. Anyway, whatever the case, we're going to go and have a great time. At the very least, the whole experience (including the expo on Thursday evening) will be a great motivator and I'm planning on signing up for next year's Half as soon as registration is open. We're just going to head out Friday morning like we always do and, if someone tells us to slow down, we'll slow down and enjoy the sights and sounds.

Thanks so much for posting this! I was wondering the same thing! My mom did the stroller division in October and ran. There were people with strollers who were running as well (ones with doubles and triple...how in the world they did that I will never know). I would ilke to do just like a run/walk as a warm up for Saturday. If you want to team up let me know :-) :cool1:
