When eating this way do you share a table with anyone else other than people in your party?

No, you don't share with another family. They just serve it as you would a family meal, with the meal brought to the table on platters and such. You then serve yourselves. The nice thing is that most of these are all you can eat.

I can't think of many restaurants where they seat you at a table with other groups.

You're seated at the same table with other groups at Germany, but that's a buffet instead of a family style.

At Sci-Fi Dine-In, you may be seated in the same car with another group, but since you're all facing forward in rows, there's some degree of separation. Sci-Fi has an ala carte menu, so again, not a family style.

At the Luau, which is a family-style, they pulled our table of two every-so-slightly apart from the table of four immediately next to us. Except for those few inches of separation, it felt like we were at the same table with them. Each group got our own family-style platters of food, though.

The other place where we've shared a "table" with others was in Japan, where we sat around the habichi grill with another family at Teppanyaki. That was an ala carte menu.

Are there other places where they combine groups at the same table? If there are, I haven't tried them yet.

The three family style WDW places we ate at (LTT, GG, Ohana) we were seated by ourselves. In fact, we ate strictly at WDW places, and never shared a table with anyone else. I think you'll be OK!

I think you might at Biergarten, too. Don't quote me on this as I haven't been there but I remember reading this, I believe.

Can someone elaborate on the seating at Biergarten? This is a restaurant I'm interested in trying for the food on our next trip (DH would LOVE it), but I'm not sure I'd like sitting at a table with others. We're friendly and all, but both kids are quite shy and plus this is our family trip. Is it long tables everyone just sits at or something else? Benches or chairs? How close are you to the other groups, is it still possible to have a "family meal" or is it going to be a big group type experience? Thanks for any help and I'm not trying to sound antisocial, just trying to figure out if this will work for us!

Can someone elaborate on the seating at Biergarten?

Biergarten is laid out with long tables that seat 8 - 10 people. They combine groups to fill the table.

I was a bit nervous about this too, but the several times we've been there, we've had nice conversations with the families dining with us. (Aside from chatting on the Dis) it's a great way to meet others from around the world.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I don't think they're benches. I think they're individual chairs. I'm probably remembering Das Festhaus at Busch Gardens Williamsburg for the benches.

Thanks, that doesn't sound too bad, as long as it's chairs not benches. My back always hurts a bit after sitting without back support, and I can't imagine it being super-comfortable after a day of touring. Hmm....well, plenty of time to decide since we're not going till spring 2009.
