We are going on a 7 day eastern in October. This will be our 4th DCL cruise. Our party consists of DH, DS 12, DD 10 and myself.

I was trying to come up with something to help pass the time while building excitement for our cruise. As if we aren't already excited enough :cool1: I came up with the idea to create a DCL song playlist for our cruise. The twist is we are doing it one song a week until we leave. We drew names and established a pick order. Now each Friday the person whos turn it is reveals their song choice. The 1st week was my DD, the next week was my DS, then me, then DH, then back to my DD, etc...

We are having such a great time! Everyone is putting lots of thought into their song pick. They explain why they picked it and how it reminds them of going to the caribbean or being on the DCL. For example DS chose a song called "Billionaire" because if he were a billionaire he could go on all the DCL cruises he wanted. There have been lots of Jimmy Buffet type songs too. I also downloaded the ship's horn playing "When You Wish Upon A Star" to throw in between songs every so often.

I just thought I would share this idea. It's just been such a great way to mark each week as we get another week closer to our cruise.

I've always wanted a copy of that cd. We recieved one in the mail from DCL after our first cruise but it the cd was broken in half when it arrived in the mail. I called and asked for another copy but it never came. Do you remember any of the songs that were on that CD? I have another pick coming up this Friday and I need ideas!

I also downloaded the ship's horn playing "When You Wish Upon A Star" to throw in between songs every so often.

Does anyone have a download of the ships horn (and the Dream's) that you can link on here? Would love that! :lovestruc (I also tried to get the Dream's horn as a ringtone, but couldn't get it to work -- I'm technically challenged! :rotfl: )

Thanks. Tried it, but only found Wish upon a Star - does it have A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes? (Doesn't the Dream play that? Or was that just for the float out, and I missed finding out that it doesn't actually play that? :rolleyes1 )
Thanks!

That sounds great! Do you make up your own trivia questions or is there someplace I can go to find a list of trivia cruise questions?

It could be general Disney Trivia as well to make it fun...especially since they offer some Disney trivia games onboard the ships. There are several books by Kevin Neary who used to be a Disney Store CM. He wrote trivia books with the head of the Disney Archives, Dave Smith. There are 3 or 4 volumes.

Here is a link to one of the volumes at Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Disney-Trivia-Quiz-Book/dp/1562829254

Also here are some fun facts about the ships...many of these are illustrated on the Magic in artwork on Deck 5. these have been posted before but are pre-Disney Dream facts...you can create some of your own for the Dream or Fantasy.

The Disney Magic & Disney Wonder are almost as long as the Eiffel Tower is high. Each ship is 964 feet long, and the Eiffel Tower is 986 feet high.

If the Disney Magic or the Disney Wonder were a land vehicle, it would need an eight lane highway (including median) to handle its width.

The anchor alone is as heavy as two Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaurs or three elephants. Each ship weighs 90 million pounds.

The Magic and Wonder have 1,950 telephones. That's enough phone cord to run a phone all the way up Pike's Peak in Colorado and then some.

The horsepower of the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder's five engines is equivalent to the power of more than 100 NASCAR racing cars -- running at full speed.

Each ship can make 1,200 tons or 5000,000 gallons of fresh water from seawater each day -- that's enough glasses of water for everyone in Chicago and Houston combined.

Disney Cruise Line will transport approximately 10,000 suitcases per operating day. If each bag weighs 15 pounds, the team will get a great daily workout lifting 75 tons of baggage! (edited to add that this was before the Dream so even more luggage is handled now!).

Each embarkation day, 5,000 people will be transported from the airport to their resort, to the port and back to the airport, enough people to fill Carnegie Hall twice over.

There are 1,367 miles of cable on the ship -- enough to run an extension cord between Austin, Texas and Detroit, Michigan.

The 20,000 gallons of paint it takes to paint either the Disney Magic or the Disney Wonder could paint 2,000 average American houses.

In a month of cruises on either the Disney Magic or the Disney Wonder, 15,776 cans of Coca-Cola will be consumed.

Water is procured in Port Canaveral and delivered to Castaway Cay by the ships to an 80,000 gallon fresh water storage tank on the island.

Of the 5,000 eggs consumed every morning at breakfast, 1,956 will be scrambled, 552 will be served sunny-side up, 480 will be soft boiled, 984 will become omelets, and the other 976 will be used for various egg dishes.

8,260 cups of coffee are served every day.

Also, you could make your own trivia questions just by going to the DCL site and reading over different things to create your own...just use the info on any of the DCL pages and reword it to create a question.

I just Googled DCL Trivia and found this as well.

That sounds great! Do you make up your own trivia questions or is there someplace I can go to find a list of trivia cruise questions?

Part of the fun is making up your own questions. Couple of rules to make it more fair - No multipart questions and you have to really know the answer. Anyone answering a question can challenge and if the "asker" was wrong, they lose a point. Answer a question right & get a point and you get to ask the next question. Found it's good to put a time limit on asking a question too - 5 minutes usually works :thumbsup2 Also, questions need to be "fair". No asking "When we went on the cruise 3 years ago, what did I have for breakfast on the 3rd day?" :rotfl:

It could be general Disney Trivia as well to make it fun...especially since they offer some Disney trivia games onboard the ships.

We usually gear the trivia to where we're going. For cruises, it's DCL trivia, but if we're going to the parks, we make it parks trivia. Our whole family is into Disney so we restrict it to make it a bit more challenging both for the people answering & to see how creative the questions can get. :goodvibes

BTW - On out 1st cruise with the kids, I won. My choice of what to do 1st? "Get Daddy a beer" :thumbsup2
