Our family began a new tradition a few years ago. Each Saturday night, we have a movie/dinner night. The dinner is always themed to go along with the movie, which we watch afterwards. Last year, before our Disney trip, I started using only Disney movies to get the kids pumped (and refamiliarized) with some of the classics and characters. This week, we are starting the tradition again in preparation for our December trip.

One night we watched Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and ate dinner on the kids' play kitchenware. We had Little Smokies and other miniature food and even drank out of the little cups. The kids loved it! Another night we watched The Little Mermaid, and the menu included hotdog octopi, apple boats, and jello aquariums. The kids love to see what I've cooked up to go with our movie selection, and it makes dinner time a lot of fun on the weekends. Then we spread out the big picnic quilt and the kids grab their pillows and blankets and we all watch our Disney movie together. This weekend our movie/dinner will be Bambi, so I'm going to have to be creative! Carrot sticks for Thumper...hmmm...what else?

What do your families do to countdown the weeks until your next Disney trip?

:earsboy: WECOME to the DIS KSgirl !!! :earsboy:

This is a GREAT idea! The Honey I Shrunk was REALLY clever! I love to do stuff like this.During the Olympics we have had different countries theme nights for our dinners.

A few years ago I homeschooled Erich for kindergarten which was also an Olympic year.We did China,England,Mexico and Italy. We decorated the kitchen for each theme.Erich made the countries flag.I even dressed him up in a costume, well best as we could anyway ,of that country. We have the Disney Fun to Learn books. We read about places in the all about countries book.I had him find his toy animals that were from that area and we ALWAYS found a Disney character to fit into our themes!:earsboy:

I really love to do fun things for our Halloween dinner too.We have rats (mini-meatloaves,ears Ritz crackers, olive eyes, pasta whiskers and tail) maggots( a rice dish) eye balls ( deviled eggs with green olives) and bones (breadsticks shaped like bones)!!

Okay for your Bambi dinner we DEFINITELY know venison is out!

How about some sort of tossed salad? A nut bread? I mean that's all Bambi and his pals ate were plants, nuts and berries! Or maybe go "woodsy/camping" like a stew?Let us know what you come up with!

Oh and our family countdown ,well we just whine...how many days until we go to Disneyworld!!!:teeth:

Thanks for sharing!

I love the Disney dinner theme night ideas.

We are going to Disneyland in August but my 6 yo and 4 yo don't know yet we are going to surprise them the week before we go. I think I will use your idea and have a different theme every night before we leave.

Thanks for the great ideas.
