Hey guys! I am toying with what costumes my dh, myself and my ds (will be turning 4 at WDW) will wear at MNSSHP. Right now we are thinking of Tink (me...but I'm an 18/20 size??), Peter Pan (ds) and Capt. Hook (dh). All costumes would be nice and cool for the Sept. heat except dh's. Any other suggestions for cute family Disney costumes?? Also, if you have links on where to get the costumes or ideas on how to make the costumes...that would be great. TIA!

Even for MNSSHP Disney will NOT allow adults in the park dressed as ANY Disney Characters. Children can be dressed up as Disney characters, but not adults. It's too confusing for people who aren't really 'knowledgeable' about all of the characters to tell the difference. So sorry, but no Disney costumes for you or DH, they wont let you in.

Actually, for the parties, Adults ARE allowed to dress up. Here's another thread with pictures: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=24871513

But what was said is that adults can not dress AS DISNEY CHARACTERS. Is this allowed? That would seem to be a problem, especially if people dressed up weren't being very "Disneylike", such as smoking, cursing, being rude, etc.

I read that the rule was that adults can't wear a costume that has a covered head like a real costume would have... you know...like Donald or Pooh's head or something like that. Neither Tinkerbell nor Capt. Hook has that type of head. Anyone know the facts??? I may call WDW to find out. We really want to wear disney costumes since we are at WDW!

Exactly right...you can not wear say a rented Mickey Mouse costume with the Mickey "head". You could wear Mickey Mouse style clothing with your own head showing and be fine. You can ABSOLUTELY dress up for MNSSHP (or P&PP) but your own head has to be visable :rotfl: That being said...with the heat, you'd be out of your mind to wear a characters head and costume in Florida heat. We are still debating our costumes. Can't come up with anything too fun for DH that he wouldn't be sweltering in.

UPDATE- I just got off the phone with WDW and spoke with a CM. She wasn't sure so she put me hold and spoke with a "higher up" and they confirmed that you CAN wear WDW costumes. The ONLY stipulation she told me was that you cannot sign autographs. She didn't mention the costumes with covered heads and all but like a PP said...you'd be crazy in the heat to wear one of those costumes anyways! Now that that is cleared up...anyone else have any good ideas as my OP stated??? :) I'd love to hear! Also, thanks to the PP that stated that we shouldn't wear disney costumes...I'm glad you said something b/c I would've died if I had went out and bought costumes and later found out otherwise. I appreciate your thoughts... :)

And what is the official rule on if you can enter the park early (say around 5 when they start allowing people in for the party) with your costume on? We want to get dressed at the resort, go to dinner (at chef mickeys) and then head to MK. Will anyone have a problem with it?

I think they start letting people in around 4pm and I am sure that most will be in costume. If not, you could rent a locker and put the costumes in there until later on. I'm glad you asked that b/c it got me thinking...what will we do with ours??? We are going in the AM to the MK and won't be going home till after the party unless ds needs a nap. He usually is great about napping in his stroller though and we've scheduled a couple of sit down (COOL AC) meals that day to rest. So..more than likely we'll have to tote our costumes or rent a locker b/c we won't want to wear them alllllll day. By party time, my ds will have ruined his. Ha! Great insight...still looking for some great family of 3 costume ideas. :)

Just wanted to add that your son looks pretty young from the pic. You may want to plan on going back to the room to nap/swim prior to the party. The party goes pretty late so you should try to give him a decent (COOL) nap to make sure he last longer!

Also you will NOT be able to wear your costumes all day (even if you wanted to) Your son can dress up during the day but adults can ONLY be in costumes during the party hours (4pm onward). If you do plan on staying at the park all day, definately plan on renting a locker for the costumes.

;) Yeah...I thought about that after I posted my last reply. I know the reg. MK day rules state that adults can't wear costumes in the park. I wonder how early we can put on the costumes....maybe before dinner?? We have ressies around 6pm at LTT. Food for thought....anyone know from previous parties??? I know they start letting people in around 4pm for the MNSSHP but it doesn't officially start till 7pm. Gosh...I'm glad I posted this thread about costume ideas because it's really helping me work through kinks I would've never thought of b/c it's our first MNSSHP.

You can enter and have your costume on at 4pm. If you are already there, you have to go back up front and get a bracelet for the event. You could change then. Happy Planning!

Is the only place to get the bracelet going to be at the gate? I guess I was just figuring it would be like the EMH and they would have stations posted everywhere for CM's to collect your MNSSHP tix and give you a bracelet. By the way, how much is a locker rental?? Thanks Tink for the great advice!

I'm not sure why you are passing along information that is untrue. I've seen it on other threads as well. As you know. Costumes ARE allowed at MNSSHP. I've seen some costumes done so well, that I would have believed they were the origional character. The are allowed in the parks, but only during MNSSHP.

I've seenn tons of pics here and at other sites of adults at MNSSHP in Disney-specific costumes. We have Disney specific costumes and I'm making them and they will be a ton of work so we'd better not be turned away! LOL

Locker rentals are $5 for a small locker, $7 for a large locker, and $5 deposit for the key. For costumes, I would go with the larger locker.

Or you could just wear them in at 4:00 like we did. We had 5:00 ADR's at Tony's and ate dinner dressed as Goofy (husband) Mickey (my then 3 yr old son) and Minnie (me). Didn't bother us in the least, and we got lots of compliments.

I completely agree with taking it easy before the party though...The tickets are a lot of money and I'd hate for you to be running all day then have your little guy fast asleep before the first parade. We've done several MNSSHP's, a MVMCP and we're doing our first P&PP in a few weeks. On party days, we try to sleep late, have breakfast at the resort, then go swimming and rest after lunch until party time.

One year we were Tink, Capt Hook (my then 2 year old son) and Peter Pan (my husband who is a great sport with a great sense of humor). I have to warn you, the Tink costumes (yes, I bought more than one) ran very small and were VERY short. Like be-very-careful-exiting-the-small-world-boat short. (My apologies to anyone I may have flashed in 2005.) If you're crafty (I'm not) you may need to add some extra tulle or someting to the bottom to lengthen it. Even wearing something underneath, I was not comfortable walking around in something that short. Hopefully you can find one that fits better than mine did.

Not on the can-you-or-can't-you portion of the thread, but you could also consider doing the Incredibles, with DS as Dash. Or Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, and Tigger. I'd think any "group" would work well with a family. :)

What about a Chicken Little theme? You could be Abby, DH could be Runt of the Litter and DS could be Chicken Little.

You could also do Lilo & Stitch with you as Lilo, DS as Stitch and DH as either Gantu or Jumbaa.

Creula DeVille and the DH and DS go at two little dalmatians. I saw it with a mom and several wee ones and they were all so cute!

We just stick with the same thing each year, pirates.
