False Claim by Roofing Contractor!!

I work for an insurance company, although in underwriting not in claims. Typically an adjustor comes out and views the damage and issues the claim check based on that. They don't just take the amount a contractor writes up and pay based on that. That was my first reaction when I read this last night, something didn't add up.

Yes, but some contractors will tell their customers that they are willing to accept the payment from the insurance company as payment in full, not requiring the insured to pay the deductible. That is piece in doubt. Depending on how it is done, it can be illegal. However, in many cases, it is perfectly legal - so long as the claim is not inflated.

Here is a great article that describes this, using a care repair example:link...

I think it’s time to tell you the truth.

Yesterday, my stepson told me he is preparing a thesis for his psych class regarding "human reaction when dealing with absurd issues". The premise of a fraudulent insurance claim came from an article I had read.

We decided to post the insurance story on a couple of message boards to track responses… the DIS board being one of them. Oddly enough, the DIS board proved to be the most offensive. I had originally suggested this board because of the friendly & positive feedback I have always received. I expected straightforward, honest opinions. What I didn’t expect was the “attacking” nature of your messages.

I should apologize for the validity of my original post. However, it’s unfortunate that my stepson’s paper will consist primarily of the negative and hurtful responses from this board.

Please show a little dignity by not attacking this post, as well.

Take care,
Phillip

Right. And I'm the Queen of England.:thumbsup2

If your attempt to cover up your would be illegal act were at all true you wouldn't have started to insult posters who called you out. You would have just sat back and watched the fireworks. But you didn't.

I give you points though for the most absurd attempt at deflecting the heat you ill-advised post gave you.

I have to thank you all for the responses to my admission. Please, please understand that you're commenting on a "theory". I don't know what else to say to help you understand. You're embarrassing yourselves.

When someone is being rude, you flame them. When someone is being honest, you flame them even more. Not that you matter, but I was truly sincere in my previous post... and you still continue to comment.
So... please continue. It's great reading!! Thanks!!

Here is a great article discussing Texas law - it discusses a roof repair and the need for the contractor to disclose whether or not they will be collecting the deductible from the insured. Very good read: link...

Once again, it is legal as long as the rules are followed. It is illegal if done improperly.

Wait... I have a better idea...

I am now willing to admit that my original post was real. I tried to commit insurance fraud.

O.K... go!!

Actually, it sounds like your contractor is the one trying to commit insurance fraud.

Once you get the claim check based on the amount the claim adjustor came up with (minus the deductible), you can do what you want. If you can find a contractor/repairer to do it for less, there's nothing wrong with that.

This is fascinating. I have to ask. You believe I have a contractor... but, you don't believe I'm being sincere about my stepson's paper?

Sorry - in your example. I don't know you well enough to question your integrity based on a single thread.

Depends on the state and whether or not the contractor discloses the decision not to collect the deductible.

If you were actually taking part in a test to begin with you wouldn't care what any of the responses were because the intent would be to get all kinds of responses including negative... You'd also stop coming back to "save face" by insulting the people that had a problem with the original post.:rotfl:

Well... that's the first "sane" thing I've read today. Thank you.

I actually thought that once I confessed about my stepson, everyone was going to slam me for using the message board for an experiment. I never imagined so many people would let this go on as long as it has.

Again, thanks.

I've been responding because it's interesting to me. No one is "saving face". My insults are in response to the insults that were heaped upon me. :rotfl:

Did I really?! If I knew as much as you seem to... I'd be a genius. Please take your unwanted comments elsewhere. Thanks so much.

This response by the OP is the only rude one I saw going back over the thread.

:confused3

But they weren't heaped upon you...they were just meant for your fictional crook. So how could you take offense?:lmao:

Have you read the posts? Most posts made me out to be a liar!! Even when I apologized!! That can hurt a guy's feelings.

Do you really want to call your insurance company and tell them you colluded with the roofer to defraud them and now you're angry that didn't work out for you? Let us know how that call works out for you.

Was this really directed at my "fictional contractor"?
