'Falling' Rides

Hey there! Long time lurker, first time poster :)

I have a question for those of you that are a bit more experienced with the rides at Universal. My family has a tentative trip in the works for next summer, and I want to sway my not-so-fond-of-theme-parks boyfriend into joining. He's not a fan of heights, but the thing that gets him is the feeling of falling. Now, I know the big coasters are definitely out (Rock-it, Dragons, and Hulk), but it's the indoor rides that I'm questioning.

The Mummy's probably the biggest iffy one. I know there's a bit of a coaster portion, but how bad are the drops? And what about the more simulator-esque ones, like HPFJ? What other ones should he stay away from? And are there 'chicken exits' on most of the rides?

And while I'm at it, any tips for getting him on the plane?

There are chicken exits on all the rides. He'll want to avoid Dr. Doom but he'll be able to see that he won't like that one. The drops on Mummy are very small. Spiderman has a simulated drop from a skyscraper but in reality you are dropping a few inches. Would that still bother him?

As someone who used to fear the fall, and then one weekend came on a solo trip and just DID them all...

The Mummy is actually a great ride. Since it's dark, you don't get a sense of height, and while there's at least one steep swoop down, it's a really fun coaster. It's the one I began with, and I am very fond of it still, even though the Hulk is probably my favorite.

My least favorite is RRR. That sloooooooow ascent freaks me out. Ive only done it once and I don't know that I will again.

Honestly I hate the feeling of falling as well, but the IOA coasters really don't give me that sensation...there isn't like a big drop down like some other coasters have on any of them IMO.

Good point. Not to ruin the punchline, but with the Hulk you're going so fast there's no time to really worry about the upcoming fall.

Before Dragons get started it's a little freaky looking ALL. THAT. WAY. DOWN... But once it gets going, you're right - definitely more about being in motion and looping than falling.

Thanks for all the replies!

Yeah, Dr. Doom is the one ride I wouldn't mind skipping with him >.>
I don't think Spiderman would be an issue. One time I rode it with the glasses off (to see more of the mechanics, must be the engineer in me :rotfl: ) and that definitely tones it down, so I figured I'd tell him that if it gets too intense for him.

That's good to hear. We only have rickety old wooden coasters at our local park, so maybe he'd be willing to give a nice steel one a try :thumbsup2
