Am I nuts??? For our first several visits, I tried like heck to get a bw view, never with any luck...we got the luna pool, the quiet pool, anything but the bw. So this year, I gave up and have made all my reservations standard view. And the wierd thing is... they have been so peaceful and quiet... I'm starting to think I like them better. This past weekend we had suite 1101, to the left of the entrance with all that beautiful grass outside our patio...and talk about quiet...no noise whatsoever, we all slept so soundly. I really hated leaving that room, I felt I bonded with it. So tell me, am I nuts, or are bwv standard view rooms one of dvc's best kept secrets?

Hi,
I agree we had room 4121 a standard view room and it overlooked the lake and fountain near the carpark and we had a great view of Epcot's fireworks every nite.
We then checked out to spend 3 nites at Vero and on our return to BWV we were told we had been "upgraded" to a prefered view, when we got in the room 3124, it overlooked the quiet pool but a large tree blocked out any view!
Still a great trip though.
Mick.

hi: we, too, had a few different preferred views for our trips but not the boardwalk view. this past trip (first week of may), we had a standard view 1br (i think it was 4085) that overlooked the entrance. we were 4 doors from the elevator, unlike our p.v.s that entailed a long hike. i had worried whether or not we'd miss the p.v., but i love the standard view and point savings! i'll be trying to book s.v. every trip from now on.

The standard view rooms are terrific. You save some points which ever room you decide on. The view is still nice and you get some peace and quiet while out on your balcony. Take care, Tammy:o

We like the standard view rooms, too. But they are not always peaceful and quiet. On both of our last two trips, there were times when the front entrance area was quite noisy. One of these was in the evening and involved a bus either loading or unloading DCL passengers. Sure seemed to take a while. Wish they wouldn't leave the bus running during the process. Also, sometimes the guests leaving the boardwalk when it closes for the night are a little noisy as they walk to the bus stop or parking lots.

That said, these were only minor annoyances and will definitely not stop us from staying in standard view rooms in the future.

We are leaving soon for our first trip as DVC members and opted for a standard view. Our trip would have cost an additional 24 pts for a 10 night stay if we were in a preferred view and that seems excessive to me. We are not big on sitting on the patio - a few minutes is OK, but we would much rather be on the go. I would much rather stay longer, use the points at another time or even consider selling the points if we were unable to use them (not likely, though!).

We had a Preferred BWV last March in a 1BR. It was a long way from the elevator and some nights it was noisy when Jelly Rolls and Atlantic Dance closed. I liked the Luna Pool view better. We like to sit out on the balcony to read and people watch. We did not request these views but due late booking it was we had to take.

I am thinking of booking a standard view for our June 2002 trip. Those of you who have gotten standard views in the past, did you call day by day or just wait until you could book all at once? Thanks Gayle

Gayle, I think it depends on the time of the year. At the 11 month window I booked a preferred view studio for January 2002. This past weekend I was looking at the points and realized we could stay the first 2 nights of our trip (Fri. and Sat. night) in a standard view studio and then move to a standard view 1BR for the rest of our stay (3 more nights) - all for only 8 more points than the 5 nights in the preferred view. But now that it is only 8 months away, I knew there would not be any standard views available.

I called on Tues., May 29th and she had it available, no problem!

Hey, ez, we had the same room (1101) two years ago! I enjoyed it, since I'm a Disney and BWV nut, but my DH prefers an upper floor. The resort is great I don't think there's any bad rooms. We splurged on our last trip in April, since it was our anniversary, and got an awesome BoardWalk view right over the clothing store. After the kids were in bed we spent every night on the balcony having a drink and watching the action on the BoardWalk. I guess the luck of the draw depends on your room - I did kind of use the anniversary thing at check-in to get the view we wanted since DH didn't like the first floor on our other trips. But as far as standard view rooms go, the ones at BWV are very nice.

Especially because a Boardwalk view is not guaranteed, I prefer the standard-view units because you know what to expect (a perfectly acceptable view of the front of the resort which often includes a nice view of the Illuminations fireworks) and you save enough points to add extra days (or weeks) to your visits over time.

In a sense, preferred-view guests subsidize my standard-view visits and I'd like to keep it that way (no adjustment of points as some have suggested to even things out).

I like the view when I'm at the pool,or on the boardwalk,or at the parks,or as I'm driving,etc.... I don't care what the view is outside my room because I'm not spending my vacation looking out my window. I can sit in my sun room at home and have a great view of my backyard for a lot less money. When it comes to my points, I'm greedy,I want max time.If they offered a basement room for half the points I'd request it every time.Maybe if I had mega points I'd feel differently, but right now I like stretching mine out for 26 days a year. I've never looked out any window at OKW, PO, CBR or BWV and thought "boy, sure is ugly". I figure any view in WDW has got to be better then most views in New Jersey:-)

I'm glad to hear so many good things about the standard view at BWV, we're coming home for the first time in September and staying there in a standard 1 BDRM.

I agree with you KNWVIKING - I want to s t r e t c h every point and I haven't even had my 1st offical visit yet!!

Our first and only trip was a PV (Luna Park). I now have our next two trips booked and both are for SV. We are going in Aug and I wanted to try a SV so that's what I booked. Our trip after that is during Easter 2002. I booked day by day and was able to get a SV. I booked the SV this time because of points. This is the highest season so a few points saved was a good feeling. I hope we too enjoy the SV because thats what we got for our next two trips.
I was happy with the Luna Park view but it was nothing spectacular. We did spend a few quiet evenings on the balcony for a while but we were kind of tucked in the corner so it's not like we were in the middle of the action anyway. On our Aug trip, we plan on spending a lot less time at parks and more at the resort. I for one enjoy a cold brew, on a warm evening, while I sit and reflect on the days happenings. So I might just be spending even more time on the balcony in the SV room (reflecting).
