Fall discounts

When do the fall discounts usually come out? If I make a reservation (I can hardly stand waiting at this point!) if the discounts come out can I change my reservation and get the cheaper rate? I really want to stay at a resort hotel but can't afford to at the prices they are right now. I tried the pass code trick that I learned from you all and I got a code but it is for a week after I get there. I was pretty bummed about that because it was a great rate.

Thanks in advance!

Shannon

Thx everyone!!!! Just checked the website and there qre discounts up intil October 1st.

end of August or early September usually. If you are concerned with getting your dates, book a room only reservation now and try to switch it if discounts come out. If you change a package you will have a change fee, its usually waived only if the package price goes up.

Where can I find info about this code trick? I've searched the forum several times for "code trick". I can't find this anywhere!

It isn't a trick, it's just calling back if the rates go down and getting your reservation converted to the new rate. I'm always hesitant to book at the higher rates and then switch because my theory is if everyone did that, they wouldn't offer discount rates at all! I mean if they're pretty well booked at regular rates, why would they lower them? So I try to wait until the approximate time they usually have the sale rates (end of July, for instance, for fall) and see what it looks like then. It IS so hard to wait, though!!!!

One 'trick' I have used is to book the cheapest resort room for my dates and then switch it later to the more expensive resort room/hotel I want. The reason for doing that is that they've never asked me to increase my deposit amount so I can book the room at, say, the price for one night in a standard room at PPH and then change to GCH concierge or whatever and not have to pay the one night's cost for that more expensive room until I checkout. I mean, ultimately you have to pay the difference but it's sometimes nice not to tie up the money a long time ahead of your trip. *Note: though they've never asked me to increase my deposit amount in the handful of times I've done this, that doesn't mean they *couldn't* or *wouldn't* so caveat emptor.

I'm the guilty party who first began informing DIS'ers here about the "trick," which I will explain in a second. As soon as I discovered it last year, I began telling people. At first, it was a great way to get a PIN code (not a pass code) and it was almost guaranteed to work. Now, unfortunately, so many people have been trying the trick that it seems to be faltering a bit, such as people like the OP getting PIN codes for weeks in which they cannot go to Disneyland, or getting PIN codes for WDW instead of DLR.

I think that whatever mysterious database sent out the PIN codes because of the "trick" has now run out of them (tempoprarily), and I think we have to wait for the current wave of PIN's to cycle out and expire before they send out more batches. Of course, there may be other PIN codes that Disney sends out through other sources, but this specific one generated by the "trick" seems to have momentarily gone off course so it may not work for you.

The trick is this: make sure you create a "My Disneyland" account on the Disneyland Resort website. Many people visit the website and look up rates but they don't actually create accounts unless they need to buy something. Make sure you create the account, enter in all the necessary information to get on their mailing list, etc.

Next, make sure you are logged into the My Disneyland account. Don't sign out of it. Go to the Hotels section and plug in the dates you plan to take your trip and your hotel of choice - for example, December 12 - 15, Paradise Pier Hotel, or whatever.

The DLR system will calculate your rate for you and it will appear on the screen.

Somewhere at the bottom of the offer that pops up on the screen it will give you an option to Save it. It will say Save or Save This Offer, or whatever. Make SURE to save it - this is the key. When you click Save, it will save to your My Disneyland account. You can even double check your account to be certain that it saved.

Don't buy anything, don't book anything, don't spend any money on the hotel at that moment. Just leave the Saved Offer in your My Disneyland account.

What will happen is that a sort of 'signal' will be sent to Disney Destinations, and they will see that you showed interest in booking a room BUT that you did not book anything at ther crazy rates.

More than likely, they will probably send you a PIN code within a few days to a few weeks after that, and it could be via e-mail or via regular mail. More than likely you will get a PIN that covers 3 different hotels, and the rate could be something like $163 for PPH, $186 for DLH, $227 for GCH - that kind of thing (depends on the dates you want). The rates will probably be slightly different than the rates I and others have received, but it will be a PIN code specifically for you, with prices for each of the 3 hotels.

If DLR is anticipating huge crowds during the window of time you want, most likely they will not send you a PIN that can be applied during that time - because, basically, they do not need the business if they already anticipate crowds, and so they don't need to attract guests. Instead, they may send you a PIN for a different time frame in the same month when they expect lighter crowds - so if you want to get and use a PIN, it will help if your dates are a little flexible!

Or, they could send you something for WDW instead. Or maybe nothing at all until the current wave of PIN's expire. At first this trick worked like magic for many people. Only recently did it start to falter!

My current PIN code must be claimed by July 20th if I am going to use it, and it is good for 10/16 - 10/31, which was not the time frame I wanted. I'm sure other people will not be able to use their PIN codes at all, and theirs will probably expire in the next few days or weeks.

They are probably talking about putting together a package online and instead of purchasing it, you save it on your profile. Disney has been known to send you a pin code in order to get you to actually purchase said saved offer.

Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. In my case it worked but they sent me a pin code for the wrong dates :confused3 so it didn't do me any good.

Ah! There is a trick. Unfortunately, nothing has ever worked for me for getting a pin code. I've been going for so many years they probably figure there's no reason to send me one since I'll most likely go anyway :rotfl:

I've been going for years too, and I have an AP (as I know you do), but they still send the PIN's to me when I try this trick! I've gotten 2 PIN's just from doing the Saved Offers trick in the last 9 months.

Have you ever gone onto the DLR site and actually signed into your My Disneyland account, then priced the hotel at the rack rates, then saved the offer in the My Disneyland account, then left it alone? And have you tried this recently (because it may be a trick that did not work in the past but now it does)? I didn't notice this specific trick working until Fall of last year.

I think a lot of people have pulled up rates but they may not have been signed into their accounts OR they may not have actually saved the quotes to their accounts, which is the key.

Try it again, with these exact steps! I bet you'll get something - it may be for WDW or it may be for a week you didn't select:rotfl2:, but I bet you'll get something!

Does it make a difference if you save all three hotels for your time frame or do you just same one hotel for your dates? Just curious I have received something for WDW and an email with no code but does it make a difference?

Just wanted to say I used the trick about a month ago and on Thursday via regular mail I got the PIN codes. I cannot use them they are for Sept 1-24 and I saved a trip in December but I am going to continue to try this trick and hope for the best the rates are definitely better than the AP rates right now!

I don't think it would make a difference, really. I've only tried the trick with rates for one hotel, but it seems like others have mentioned plugging in dates for 2 of the hotels and getting basically the same offer (same rate, give or take a few dollars) that I got, with a PIN and rates for all 3 hotels. If anything, I would think DLR would be happy to see that the potential guest was flexible about the choice of hotel. I don't think it would interfere in any way.

You're not kidding! The AP rates & discounts on rooms are not good these days - or at least they don't come out as often as they used to, and when they do they are not as good as they used to be.

I can't see any harm in continuing to try the trick! As I mentioned earlier, my PIN has to be claimed by July 20 for October dates. I'm sure that many other people who have tried this trick also had 'claim by' dates on their PIN's that were near mine, and plenty of people will not use those PIN's. So each time someone doesn't use a PIN, it probably takes a bit to clear in the system and then after a while a new person may be able to get a new PIN for the resort of their choice, and hopefully the right dates too! (Your dates were 3 months off!:rotfl2:)

I've definitely seen some other DIS'ers mention getting PIN's recently that extended into December (up to mid-December), so they do exist! I really think that either the dates you plugged in for December are dates that DLR expects the parks to be packed (what were the dates, exactly?), or they had already sent out all the PIN offers they had for those December dates (there are only a certain number of rooms attached to each PIN offer), and they have to wait until the unused ones go unclaimed before they send out more. Don't give up hope!

I did this a few weeks back and got my offer a couple of days ago. Unfortunately the offer isn't that great. Paradise Pier is discounted to $240 a night, DLH $260 a night, and GCH is $355 a night. I was hoping for more significant savings I guess. The dates they offered were the ones I had indicated in my saved offer. :confused3

Thanks for the trick! I am WDW veteran, but planning our first overnight trip to DL in October. We have only ever done day trips. I am jealous of your pin dates. We are going the 16th to the 18th. Hopefully, I can get one for then too. :cool1:

Thanks, Sherry! No, I don't think I've saved a trip in a long, long time. I'll give it a try!

I received an email today with discounts for November. Not low enough to consider, but still nice to see the lower offers starting in July. Hopefully they will go lower. Anyone else receive any offers?

Shoot... I want to try this "trick" and the Disney.com site is down for maintenance. I'll check back tomorrow and plug in my dates and see if anything happens. But, my trip is for the middle of Sept. would they still send out PIN codes for such a close date? Another question, our hotel & park tickets are already paid for, by my brother who is sending us on this trip. Is that going to make a difference if we do end up getting some kind of code? Would he be able to call in with a PIN code I received to claim a lower rate since he's the one who paid the money already?

I am hoping for one of these to come through as well, going 17-21 Dec for our first Christmas season trip. Gonna try 2 hotels just in case, we stayed a night at Disneyland Hotel last week and liked it a lot.

Yesterday, I received a pin code in the mail for discounts of stays between August 22 and October 8. The discount was 35% off weeknight stays and 20% off Fri and Sat night stays. Must book by 9/12. -- Suzanne

Great to see another SLOcal :) I go to school at Cal Poly. I'm very jealous of your discount, as I'm planning to take a trip from Sept 13-17. Still trying for my own code!
