Hi all,

I'm in the process of planning another trip for October. I was wondering when fall break is for school districts in CA and AZ? Possibly UT as well.

We don't have a fall break in Canada until November, but I want to try for as slow of a time as possible. The last few visits have been during peak times and my family is ready for a bit of a break from peak dates.

Right now we are thinking of either the first week or the second week in October. The problem with the second week is gay days and Canadian Thanksgiving, so I dont think the crowds will be all that low.

Tia!

In the Peoria AZ district it is Oct 8-10. We are planning on taking our son for his birthday those days. I hope it isn't too busy. When are Gay Days and Canadian Thanksgiving exactly?

Gay days is October 5th-7th and Canadian Thanksgiving is October 8th. The problem with Thanksgiving is many school give an extra day or two off so for many families it is the perfect week to go on vacation because kids only miss one or two days of school.

Right, so it'll probably be busy for us. Oh well, we can talk hockey with all the Canadians we meet in the long lines!

Most of UT *although Utah County is huge, lots of kids - strange place ;)* has their fall break 10/18 & 19, not sure when UT county's is. We're visiting DLR the week after, our park days will be Tue-Thu 10/23-25.

We live in Peoria AZ district, but next school year my daughter will be attending the limited enrollment Bioscience High School that is operated by Phoenix Union district. Their break is also Oct 8-12.

We were tentatively planning a trip for that week. However, the new ticket prices have us rethinking. Not sure if we will be going to Disneyland or not this year.

I'm in Alberta and we have off the Oct. 4 - 8. Also, on the Trip Advisor site I was trying to decide between Sep. 21 or 28 to leave and someone there said that on Sep. 28th and on from that weekend there was something that would make it really busy and I can't remember what it was, so I decided to leave here on Sep. 21. I will try and find that thread, but maybe someone here will know what I'm talking about. I do think it had to do w/Halloween, but I will double check.

Many Northern NV schools have break in November, and I know at least a couple of families at my school who go to the park then. I'm sure early Oct will be great!

Addition: Nevada Day weekend is a POPULAR time for Nevadans to go, which is the last weekend of Oct. I went a few years ago that weekend and crowd levels were still pleasant.

Alpine School District (in Utah County) is October 11-15 this year. We'll be there Oct. 8-13. Didn't know it was Columbus Day and Canadian Thanksgiving when we made our plans - but we're happy with them and will make the best of our time there. I would say the Friday through Sunday of that weekend could be especially busy since we have a longer break this year than in the past few years. Many families will travel to Anaheim on the Thurs. and go home on the Monday and have a full 3 days in the parks. We almost always see people we know from schools or neighborhoods when we go over school breaks. :wave2:

Just yesterday my kids school sent out next year's calendar, their fall break is a day longer this year too; they have the 17-19 off, usually it's just Thu-Fri. They'll miss a full 5 days for our DLR Oct visit! 2 for driving there and back and 3 days in the parks. That's it though, nothing else planned for next school year *they do have a Fri-Mon off in early March :scratchin
If WDW works out for 10/13 we'll for sure go over the fall break, that's what we did in 10/09, we had 8/9 days in the parks *my mom & DS flew in earlier than DD and I; 2 days for traveling and they only missed 5 days of school :cool1:

The school district my kids are in have off Oct 15-26. We are in Colorado. So we are planning a few days at DL and CA Oct 21-23. I hope it won't be as busy.

Our fall break at Mesa Public Schools (largest school district in Arizona) is 2nd week of October. Many of the schools in Maricopa County have moved to a year-round schedule with two-week Fall breaks, and I recently found out that our Mesa district is planning to adopt this new schedule starting Fall 2013. Just a heads up for next calender year.

So everybody gets the same 2 week fall break? Like this? I recently learned of the Balanced Calendar and like the sound of it, I'd rather my kids have several smaller breaks than all summer off.

From that link ~
The balanced calendar reduces the long summer break and simply apportions those days throughout the school year, producing more frequent breaks and thus limiting long periods of in-session days, as well as longer vacations. Both calendars feature 180 days of instruction, with the modified calendar balancing the frequency of in-session days with days on break. The winter holiday and Thanksgiving break can be the same on both calendars.

Yes, that's the basic format: two-week fall, winter (might be 3 for winter), and spring, with a shorter summer. My wife agrees with the plan because she thinks the kids get bored and whiney for the last month of summer. It will be convenient the first year for us because we are planning to do WDW in Oct. 2013 instead of DL and want to stay 10 days. Personally, I REALLY enjoyed the long summers growing up, but I'm sure I would've adapted to longer Spring and Fall breaks.

I actually sent that link to my kids school, haven't heard back from them.... :stir:

This is when my son also has fall break in Colorado. We are doing 5 days at DL/CA during this time and also some days in San Diego.
