Fall 2016 planning (continuation of 2016 Free Dining Watch)

Thanksgiving crowds... When will it start getting busy. I would leave the dat before thanksgiving.?

I would image that the closer it gets to Thanksgiving, the larger the crowds will be. I've been at DL on Thanksgiving week, (Sunday until the Saturday after Thanksgiving) and by Wednesday crowds had increased significantly. It was also that way at WDW when we were there for Easter and 4th of July.

I read that the 4th of July is insanely busy

Been during the 4th years back.... And it was crazy busy, weather was way to hot. But then I went last July, the 13th and was able to actually tolerate the heat as it didn't seem as bad and, even tho it was crowded I found it to be not that bad...

I just read that a two year old is missing at the Grand Floridian. Apparently dragged into the lake by an alligator? How horrific for the family, it is not something I would have thought could happen?

I just read that article as well and thought it was a hoax. All I can say is "Wow". What a tradgedy. I hope they find him, but I am not too optimistic.

The year we went the Magic Kingdom reached capacity by about 10. We were at Epcot and it was HOT and crowded! I think it reached capacity at 11:30(?). I was surprised that Easter was actually much better than 4th of July.

This is tragic. Our very first trip to WDW we stayed at SOG and often walked from there to the poly and back. It was scary at the time, because we saw a lot of alligators in the waterway near SOG and it wasn't really that far from the walkway. Part of the area had a fence, but some of the area didn't. That poor family.

That poor baby, the whole thing is heartbreaking :( I can't imagine being the parents in that moment and not being able to save your child. Between the Orlando shooting and this I've been in tears anytime I catch any news stories.

Forget the Disney bubble, I want an actual bubble to put my kids in.

I want a bubble to put my kids in too, this is so sad and scary!!! :sad1:

I agree about the bubble! After I couldn't stop reading about the little boy I went in my daughter's room and just sat next to her while she slept, holding her hand and crying as quietly as I could. I am praying God performs an amazing miracle but living in this world my expectations are low. I really can't even imagine what his poor parents are going through.

I saw this on the news before I went to bed. I woke up and hoped to hear good news. Nothing yet. Its been a really sad week for the city of Orlando. My friends are going to the GF next month. I'm scared that this might force their hand into canceling.

I just read a comment On FB chastising the parents of that child for not using "common sense" and now the WDW beaches are closed because of them. the finger pointing and parent shaming is making me so angry! Have some compassion for those parents :sad2:

I agree with you as well! Parent shaming is seriously awful these days. It was a horrible accident.

Do you have the same compassion for people who don't buckle their kids in cars and such? Because they were wading in the lagoon with a 2 year old at 9:30 pm, where is it posted all over that there is no swimming.

Okay, this thread is normally a very friendly place so I'm not sure why you're trying to start something. There is a thread on the New/Rumors board where people are arguing back and forth regarding who is to blame for this accident so maybe you would like to join them over there.

I'm not blaming Disney either but the sign said "No Swimming," it is very possible that these parents didn't consider him wading in a couple inches of water to be swimming. I have also seen other people on threads say they've been told by CMs that it is okay for kids to put their feet in the water, as well as those seeing other children doing so, so I absolutely do not think that what happened is even close to the same thing as not buckling up in the car. Not everyone that visits is aware that alligators are on property so while I would not let my 2 year old wade in the water that does not mean I'm going to blame the poor parents of this little boy or blast them on social media as if they got what they deserved.

My comment about parent shaming was more a general one, mom shaming is seriously ridiculous anymore. You are judged for not choosing to breast feed, for your children hitting milestones early because you must not be holding them enough, judged for not rear facing long enough, etc. Not that it matters but none of these are about me, I did breast feed and my daughter at 2 is still rear facing but these are all things I've seen other mothers judged for on social media. People just seem to love to hide behind computer screens.

I'm not trying to start something, I'm just saying people need to take some responsibility for their actions.

What makes you think the parents aren't beating themselves up this very minute? Where did you read they aren't taking responsibility?

I've been reading the threads since the story broke and I really shouldn't. It's just horrifying. And I don't think the parents did anything worth losing their baby over, and they deserve only compassion.

Agreed! They are blaming themselves enough and maybe those shaming should put themselves in the parents' shoes before adding blame was my point as well. I'm sure they are going over it and over it in their minds wondering what and wishing they would have done something differently.

I don't know any perfect parent, myself included. Nor do I follow every rule sign I see. I feed ducks when I shouldn't, I speed, etc. is this family the first to ever have waded on that beach? No. They aren't from Florida, they likely didn't know (like the vast majority of WDW out of state visitors) that there would be gators in there. Shaming and blaming is unfair. They were not purposefully endangering that child. They were RIGHT THERE. not the same as intentionally failing to buckle a car seat or any other negligent act.
