We are planning a trip to San Francisco and are thinking about using some of our points to stay at the Fairmont. Has anyone on this board done this? We are wondering what kind of room we would get. Any insight on using points like this would be welcome.

Thanks,

Mary Lou

Hi MaryLou -
My husband and I stayed there on points earlier this year. We had a fabulous time. Our room had a lovely view of Alcatraz (and Coit Tower if you looked right out of the window). The room was quite large for a "standard"
room. And, service was great.

We had a couple of issues, but nothing major. (Light bulbs out, etc). We mentioned it at check out and they bent over backwards wanting to refund our "money" ... we politely told them we didnt stay on cash, and that it wasnt neccessary. They offered us a free upgrade and a discounted room the next time that we came out to visit.

Thanks for the reply. How many nights did you stay? It appears there are several choices for room types - how did you decide which type to pick?

Thanks!

We stayed at the Fairmont for 3 nights this past August. Since we splurged on a theme park view room at the Grand Californian in Disneyland, we booked the room at the Fairmont with the lowest point value. (I believe they call it "exterior view" - it was 38 points per night.) The view overlooked an interior courtyard, you can't see the city at all. However, it was a very nice, clean, spacious room, and the Fairmont is a lovely hotel. All you have to do is walk outside the hotel for views - you're at the top of Nob Hill and you can see everything from up there. The hotel also has a rooftop garden which has great views of the city. We really enjoyed this hotel and would definitely stay there again.

If you don't mind spending $$$$ for a special dinner, try to have dinner at the Carnellian Room atop the highest office building in SF (the hotel concierge booked it for us - a corner window table at sunset). The panoramic view is just amazing, and the food was excellent too.

Hope you enjoy your trip to SF - it's a beautiful city!
