Fairly newly Single on VD Day and not loving it. :(

Yeah, I'm trying not to pay attention to valentine's day this year either. This has been a rough year and a half, to put it briefly. My mom got me flowers, I had brunch with my dad, my niece sent a sweet card and my unbelievably cute, furry, purring little siamese cat is keeping me company. I don't care if that makes me sound like a crazy single cat lady. :) It is what it is.

:sunny:

Exactly! That's what I always tell myself when things don't go as I'd have liked them to at that point in time, whether it's man-related or not. My last relationship ended over the summer and while I was all but catatonic for about a week and didn't want to do anything but cry and stare at the ceiling, I realize now that it was an enormous blessing that it ended when it did. Now I'm available for someone who's actually RIGHT for me, and so are you. :thumbsup2

AMEN!!! Can't force fit a shoe that just doesn't want to fit!

Can I join the club??? This is my 3rd V-Day single (30, divorced, w/ 2 kiddos).

I get annoyed when people ask "What are you doing special today" and I say "Oh nothing really"...and they reply in this sad sorry tone "awww, why not". Seriously?? I was perfectly happy being single, until you just had this pity party for me :headache:

Come on in and sit by me if you can't say nothing nice about VD Day! The more the merrier!

Woohoo! It's midnight here. It's now officially over!

Valentine's day 3 years ago was the day my late husband had his first heart attack. It won't ever have the same meaning to me again. Yesterday, was just another day for me.

Exactly! I was OK with watching Point Break in the morning (mmm... Keanu and Bojesse Christopher :lovestruc) then going to the gym and watching the Olympics all night. Honestly, I've been single so long it might freak me out to actually have a Valentine on Valentine's Day, like my whole world would be turned upside down.

I'm so sorry.

You know, I'm married to a great guy, and we did go out to eat, but I really think Valentine's Day is overblown to the extreme. The crowds were so bad that I think we'll stay home next year.

I've told my husband that while flowers are very nice, they're also very expensive and don't last long. There are so many other things we could use the money on other than roses. He really agrees but didn't want to disappoint me. Now that he knows I'm not disappointed, he doesn't feel like he needs to do that. :thumbsup2

DD told her new husband the same thing. They can't afford roses right now, and they don't last long. They went out to dinner and a movie.

It's really a commercial enterprise. You should have seen the office at school on Friday. It was filled with stuff for kids. Thank goodness we don't allow balloons anymore. Friday wasn't even Valentine's Day. Honestly, I think it's mostly for the benefit of everybody else to see (just like the flowers delivered to work). If it were just for the recipient, it would be given to them personally.

While I'm not opposed to Valentine's Day, I do think the whole thing has gotten out of control (and I agree about people complaining about the spouse/SO not "doing enough"). It's the other 364 days that matter to me.

I flippin' hate Valentine's Day.

(Stay away from the "Valentines and Pragmatism" thread. Just sayin'.)
