Fairfield Inn - Do I really need the shuttle?

According to this site (which I got from here): http://www.accommodationsneardisney.com/Disneyland/Default.asp
one needs to take the shuttle from the Fairfield Inn rather than walk. However, when I use Google Maps, it appears to be about a half mile walk to the park gates (not cutting across any parking lots). The same site states that the Ramada Main Gate is right across the street from the crosswalk, whereas I'm finding it to be only slightly less far from the crosswalk as the Fairfield Inn is (only in the other direction).

Is the Ramada Main Gate really that much closer? Will I really want to take the shuttle from the Fairfield Inn? Am I just measuring really wrong with Google maps?

Thanks!

It is within walking distance on the map that you showed. (It is in the green area). It is just a little way up on Harbor Blvd. across from the crosswalk to the park......very walkable. :)

I personally wouldn't take the shuttle from there. It is just on the other side of McDonald's set back a little in the parking lot. It is easily walkable in 5-10min tops and probably would be faster than taking the shuttle because you wouldn't have to wait for anyone, you could just leave when you are ready.

No, you shouldn't need the shuttle from Fairfield.

The red Pedestrian Access mark on the map you linked to is the main crosswalk that people use to get into the parks from Harbor. I believe there's a crosswalk at Disney Way, but it's not the one most people use, b/c it makes you then cross a large driveway with no lights to help you. So it would be best to walk north on the "right" side of Harbor, then cross Harbor between the Park Place and Park Vue on the map you linked to.

Fairfield is behind the McDonald's, back further in the lot. Many people stop into McD's on their way while walking from HoJo, which is further away than Fairfield.

In my recent trip report, the May one linked to in my signature, I take you on a walking tour, complete with camera time-stamps, of the distance from the HoJo parking lot walking on the hotel-side of Harbor. :)

Great thanks.

I was confused because, as has been said, it is in the green zone, but when you click on the Fairfield Inn for details it says that you should take the shuttle.

I'm now off to read Bumbershoot's TR.

OK, that site shows this info for Fairfield:

"This hotel is located South of the pedestrian entrance to the Park. A shuttle is recommended."

Ummmmm, no? Weird!

adding....

When you go to the actual Fairfield website, you see: "is directly across the street from the Disneyland® Resort entrance. Park your car with us for free and walk to Disneyland® Resort, Disneys California Adventure® Park and Downtown Disney® District. " With no mention of the shuttle. Double weird!

So if you look at the google map for the Fairfield address, and put it to street view and satellite, for some bizarro reason, they don't show the crosswalk that puts you to the pedestrian access. Well, they do, but they don't label it.

If you're looking at that view, over on the right of Harbor, there are these cool lane-looking things that end in curly swoopy circle things. That's where shuttles come in. South of the curly swoopy things, that's the path that takes people towards the bag check area (green rectangles between trees), which you can see if you move the map over more. Then you see the ticket booths (funny buildings with jagged looking edges), and the esplanade.

To give you another map, lookie here. :)

Have fun slogging through my trip report, LOL. :goodvibes

We just stayed there. The shuttle doesn't even stop there and it is across the street. I think that the link that said you need to use the shuttle was just incorrect.

OK, :offtopic:

Is there any practical use of those concentric circles at the ends of bus lanes?
Can you walk around them ?

Or is it just that they, along with the "diamonds" embedded in the path, were added because Disney knows there are now aerial maps available online, and wanted something to show off?

One more: what's the red and white, sort of umbrella shaped, roof that appears to be in a corner of CA?

I've stayed there before and it is a short walk to DL from there. In the morning I walked it in about 5 minutes after a loooong day at DL it was about 10 minutes, but I was walking real slow and taking in the sights.:goofy:

We timed it just this past December (we were pushing a stroller), and it took us 7 minutes from the hotel doors to the security check point. We're brisk walkers, it wasn't crowded, and we made the crosswalk light. It really is one of the nicest hotels that close to the entrance. We stayed for free, so I cannot comment on the rates...

I think that's the tent over the "bumper car" ride in a bug's land. You can see the clover leaf shapes of the "grass" all around, and it's right next to TOT, so I do believe that's it!

I think if you look beyond the fences, you can see the pattern in the ground, and I think it matches up to those circles. Just a design, as far as I can see.

Correct... the ride is called: "Tuck and Roll's Drive'Em Buggies"

yea i think those circles are mostly for decoration. At most the drivers can use them as guides when making the turn. The real question is What's with these cones that spiral into nothing?

Also... I didn't know there was a tunnel under the pedistrian crossing... cool!

LOL me too! I've timed the walk several times and got 7 minutes each time. I fly/drive to Disneyland at least 3 times a year and stay at Fairfield Inn everytime. They remodeled it recently (1-2 years ago??) and I just find it a great place to stay. Restaurants nearby are good, pool is nice, and room size is great for a family of 4.

I totally agree. The room sizes are great for a fam of 4 (we're a fam of three), but they were pleasantly big. The lobby is great w/ free internet access, and the staff was so helpful and friendly. I used to work at Marriott, so I am well aware of the standards they hold themselves to. It's a good hotel.

It was 7 minutes for us as well! No kids though. It was a great little motel. I'd recommend it. We were actually able to check in at 8:30 am when we arrived. This was a Monday in January though.

For two reasons:
1. Fairfield is a nice little walk to DL and like most have said it usually takes less than 1o minutes. It's a leisurely walk at that.

2. ART is horrible. Don't spend the money especially when your that close.

We checked in early as well, and they met all of our needs very quickly. One thing: If you are driving, get a parking spot and don't move your car. Spaces are limited.

Sorry for the mixup on that website. The map correctly shows the Fairfield Inn being in walking distance (green shaded area) but the database had a bad piece of information and it shouldn't have displayed that a shuttle is recommended. All of the hotels in that general area are WALKING DISTANCE hotels.

Sorry for the confusion. The data has been corrected on this page.

We were so lucky. As we were dropping off the luggage, a space immediately opposite the front entry opened up. We grabbed it and didn't move the car for 4 days.
