DH and I are planning our first trip to DL. DH travels A LOT for work so he has a ton of marriott points to use. We can stay at the Fairfield Inn Anaheim (on South Harbor Blvd.) for free for the duration of our stay (4 nights).

My question is - Is the hotel nice? For any previous WDW visitors would you compare it to a value, moderate, or deluxe? Or should we bite the bullet and stay onsite?

I hate to pass up a free hotel stay.....but I also want to stay somehwere nice. (Nice to us would be like a moderate or higher resort at WDW.)

And - is it literally right across the street? I just have a hard time fathoming being that close to the maingate and staying offsite......lol

We haven't personally stayed there, but I've never stayed at a Marriott chain hotel that wasn't nice. We stayed at the HOJO next door and I can verify- yes, it's about an 8 minute walk from the entrance to the parks.

We've never stayed there but my Husband's Aunt works there and my MIL has stayed there and says its very clean. It looks like it is nice, I'm sure it's not 4 star, but I agree with the previous poster, I've never stayed at a Marriott that wasn't nice. Think of all you can do with the money you are saving!

Its where we usually stay for every visit the past few years. It's very clean and the staff has always been friendly and helpful. Plus, it's great to be about 10 minute walk to the front gate.

If you are accustomed to staying at the Marriott "HOTEL", you will likely be disappointed with the Fairfield Inn. Though owned by Marriot, it is more of "MOTEL" than your typical Marriott. The nicest feature of the FFI is the lobby. The room we had was musty with an overwhelming smell of disinfectant/air freshner.

I have stayed at the Fairfield three times and I think it is conviently located and a nice place to stay. There are many decent restaurants right outside and a McDonalds as well. It is a quick and easy walk to the park. For the amount of time you actually spend in your room, I think it is worth is- especially if it is free!:goodvibes

Even though we keep saying we will try other hotels we always end up at the Fairfield.

DBF and I stayed there in January for 6 nights and we really loved it. Of course we stay at really nasty hotels usually but I really did like it and for free that is great! We really liked our room and the view of the park and you could even see Tinkerbell during the fireworks! I can't remember if you can hear the music or not, maybe very faint. I liked the lemon and lime water they had for people to drink in the lobby. The beds are also really comfy. :cloud9:

I also am a Marriot Reward's dude. I wouldn't blow the points on this Fairfield. They recently bumped the level & it eats up too many points. I want to think that when I checked into using my Marriot points there, it would have cost the same as a deluxe resort hotel elsewhere. The high points they are charging is because it's walking distance & (imo) it's not a good value. Save the points for another location.

It's fine. & the location is very good. I've stayed there twice & it's a nice Fairfield (but it IS a Fairfield...not a deluxe resort). I'd either pay out of pocket for it.....or stay at the Hojo or Candy Cane.....or better still, stay on site.

It's more like a Value.....without the theming. Given your comments, I'd stay on-site unless it's cost prohibitive.

Fathom it.

It's one of 8-10 reasons why i prefer DLR over WDW. :hippie:

Have a great time planning a visit to Walt's Park. :thumbsup2

meh. We stayed there last year and I wasn't overly impressed. HOJO's is right across the parking lot and was nicer IMO. And the 3 DL hotels are more "fun". But for free, it's certainly nice enough!

I think for free you can't beat it! The walk is super close - it is hard for us WDW folks to understand, but really, you can be back to the hotel in the amount of time it usually takes to walk to the bus stop at WDW. I know someone who stayed there and was really happy with it.

Be aware though, that staying offsite is REALLY offsite - it does not at all in any way compare to staying onsite anywhere at WDW - not even value. I even feel like onsite at DLR is not nearly what it is to be onsite anywhere at WDW. That is not a bad thing, just make sure to adjust your expectations before you go. If you stay onsite at DLR you will be more immersed than if you stay offsite - but still not nearly as immersed as I feel at WDW. Just my opinion of course, but make sure to adjust your expectations BEFORE you get there.

That said there are 1000s of things I LOVE about DLR... but that's another post!

We stayed there once five years ago and it was fine. Nothing special. Clean though, not too noisy, and enough room for our family of 4. I have other places I like better, but I probably wouldn't pass up free.
