I have friends that would like to go to Disney January 2013 and would like to rent points from us. Is $10/point a fair price to charge?

This question is multi layered. The real question is how much are the points worth to you at the moment. Were you thinking of using the points or saving them for the next 'big' vacation or were they sitting there and you have no current plans.

Are you trying to do your friends a favor? At ten dollars a point, will their vacation be nicely discounted? Or will it be close to the 'going' rate for that resort (if they were to 'pay ' for it?) And what are other people who are renting their points charging?

We are taking our friends and their children to DW and staying at the Animal Kingdom in a two bedroom villa. I am sure that they will pay for some dinners but we are not asking for compensation for the accomodations. This is our choice of course, but as friends, I would like to 'give' them this part of their vacation.

Really very personal thing to decide. Myself would charge what my dues are, as I would not want to profit off my friends.

But yes that is about the going rate if they were to rent from someone else.

Thanks! They are a family of 5 (two adults, 3 kids all 10 and under), so they don't really want to all cram into a value or moderate, even if there happens to be a free dining offer at the time.

We don't mind renting the points we have enough to carry us over for some nice trips. I told her to price out how much it would cost on their own and to let me know! :thumbsup2

We rented last year from a family friend. We paid $10 per point. We thought it was a good deal. WIth my father in laws military discount, Disney was offering us a 2 br at SSR, and renting the points for BLT came out to be about $300 more. We wanted to stay on the monorail so we rented. But that discount for the military was HUGE.

$10 seemed to be standard last year, but I would expect $11 to become a new standard soon as dues increases continue.

For me, our dues for BLT are $4.23, plus a $1.95 per point buy in price (buy in divided by total points included in the life of the contract at purchase) So that would be the price to rent to "break even"

We've rented to family and friends several times. We usually go with $10/pt since that is the low end of the average rates on the rent/trade board. (Excluding distressed points.) We have, however, rented at a lesser cost to some of my immediate family members because we wanted to "treat" them to the extent we could at the time.

All in all, whatever you decide and they agree to is fine, but $10 is certainly reasonable.

$10 appears to be the going rate for some time now on the "Rent board".

When my family has gone with me, I reasoned that a fair price was what I've got invested. For me, our dues for OKW are $4.87 per point, plus a $2.00 per point buy in price (buy in cost divided by total points available in the life of the contract at purchase) or a total of $6.87/point. Many would also call this their breakeven point.
