Fair or unfar: the closing of the VMK Insider Tour?

I say this is sort of fair. We don't own the parks, so what can we do? My theory is they will see that their business at the parks will go down, and then they'll back peddle and make a glorious return of the In Park Quest. But that's just my theory.

Everytime I went to DLR to go on the tour it was already booked up, THREE frustrating times! I was there on a weekday and got there when Main Street opened so that when the rest of the park opened I could get on the tour. The tour at least was popular.

Is it fair that they are shutting down the Insider Tour? I think that it's fair but as a long time annual passholder, doing the quests made me more excited to go to the park. I wish they that would have different in-park quests, maybe something not on a fancy printed card but maybe two random questions covering in-park minutia printed on regular paper that you have to search the park in order to get your reward... kind of like those kiosks that they are using to search for your pictures in the big picture murals.

Disney's made a lot more money from me this year because of VMK.

Hmmmm fair and unfair are hard concepts to grasp. They haven't really given a reason for shutting down the tours, so I'm going to say it just doesn't make sense. Though you never know, maybe they're replacing the tour with something different and better that is still VMK related. Maybe. I have no idea.

I am going to have to almost completely agree with LilLisaLou.
1.) I went to the park hoping to take the tour and was unable to take it but the reason was due to lack of knowledge on my behalf and the staff as well as a glitch with the coupon where it indicated it was used already. I'm still waiting for the word back on that from the Black hole on that.
2.) I too have paid Disney more this year to get things for VMK, but will it make much difference to the average player if it stops the tours, no. They will go or they won't just like normal. Season pass holders may go less often. They may have looked at that as well.
3.) It is their business and they have a right to make the business decisions necessary.
While the survey played a part I am sure. It was only a small piece most likely. I would like to see the tour available but to purchase. I have taken the back of the house tour at Disney years ago and enjoyed it. My company paid big money for about 30 managers in the hotel business to go on this. I have some issues with winning something and having to go pay to get it. Not to get technical but most real prizes follow a legal guideline of no purchase necessary to win (here is where I have to put I'm not a lawyer and this is my opinion) as well as many other disclaimers and rules. I have to say by making real prizes for a virtual game I think they walk the line, especially having to go and pay to get the prize. I think the decision was well thought out on their part. They are seeing some abuse of the system people going multiple times, cashing in coupons for others, season pass holders coming more often just to do these things and it books up the tours. They have people with complaints because staff doesn't have the correct info, complaints because people came just for that and could not go. Etc. Etc. Etc. I could go on and on. I am in Hospitality and have see people work the system and complain to complain. I also would note thou out of place, I think the multitude of mules and greed running rampant is the reason they only picked thanksgiving winners for the event at random and gave few top winners. It wasn't even noon and I saw people wearing eight Hyena pins I'm sorry to say, yes I have mules. I'm only saying they looked at many things and it was fair for them to decide that.

Huh, well, whether or not its fair is debatable. To the consumers (us) of course it will not seem fair. But then again, they did host a poll about it, and most of the people it seems voted for the closure. But since I do not own Disney, i guess all i can do is just hope they open them up again.

I don't know if everyone is forgetting that the Tour cards expire at the end of the year so this was going to happen anyway. It will be interesting to see if anything will be offered to replace it.

Hi Coasterguy :wave2:

Our Insider Tour cards from Disney World say they expire "September 30, 2006". But then if you keep reading the fine print, it says "subject to change without notice".

Disney has DEFINITELY made money from us this year because of VMK. I hope they don't totally cancel the Tour!

Disney makes a lot of money any way LOL!!!! However, the tour has been a good source of more money from what I hear. I don't know how many people actually have done the tours at the parks but I know they certainly have many people playing VMK. While new people discover the game, more people are apt to do the tour so it would be kind of silly to get rid of the tour all together lol.

My tour guide was ok, but personally, I found it underwhelming.

If they scrap the tour but still give Quest completers the tour Quest to
complete with prize cards, I'd be perfectly happy with that.
