Fair Food

Anything on a stick is my favorite!! :lmao: The Iowa State Fair has a ton of food on a stick..

Pickle on a stick
Fried pineapple on a stick
Chicken lips on a stick
Fried twinkies on a stick
Fried hot dog on a stick
Chili dog on a stick
Salad on a stick

... and literally about 50 other things, and they're ALL delicious. One of the new things they have this year is chocolate covered tiramisu on a stick, sounds pretty interesting. Walking tacos are also pretty big at the fair.

Plus, it's not the Iowa State Fair if you don't have at least one maid-rite or tenderloin.

Chicken Lips on a stick? How the heck do they fit? I don't wanna know. You dont eat them do you?

Dough that is fried & it's shaped kinda like an Elephant Ear & the sprinked with Cinnamon & sugar. Some people put fruit on it which is sooo wrong:lmao: or powered sugar leave that for funnel cakes;) And I have become allergic to apples, which stinks cause I love apples.

Kae

Thanks! Sounds good to me. Allergic to apples - that does stink!

butterfly chips with all the toppings. My daughter-9 and I are going to a local street fair tomorrow. We will window shop and snack.

Sorry, they're not literally chicken lips. ;) That might be a regional term, I guess. Chicken lips are pieces of chicken breast that are breaded, fried, and then covered in hot sauce.

I was wondering about that too :lmao:. Food on a stick gives me the heebie jeebies. I don't think I would do very well in Iowa!

Are those the really thin potato chips that are made right in front of you? Kind of like one giant potato spiral?

Yeah I guess that makes sense - cause they don't have lips.:rotfl2: The mental picture was pretty freaking funny though.

I love fair food! There's nothing better than walking around a good old country fair in the fall with the crisp air and the so good and bad for you food.

Favorites in no particular order:

homemade apple cider cold and hot
fried cheesecake
fried twinkies
peppers and sausages
peiroges (probably did not spell that right)
funnel cake
corn dogs
fresh squeezed lemonade slush thingys
chocolate dipped bacon
fried onions like blooming onions
fried butter
fried cookie dough

I have no idea what a zepole is though considering it's fried dough I'm sure it would be my friend:love:

I should never have started this thread. I'm starving now!

I'll try to take a picture of some zepploes and post them. Trust me, you are all missing out if you have never had one! They are round shape things of fried dough, put into a paper bag, with a huge scoop of powdered sugar on top. Then you shake the bag and the sugar gets all over them. Heaven! :thumbsup2

 I'll see what I can do!

That is my husbands favorite thing too!

Have any LI'ers had the roasted corn from the farmstands out east? Oh lordy, those are just delicious! My boyfriend has yet to experience it, so we are planning on going out for a day when the weather cools down a bit. I can't wait!

Ok I need to leave your thread you are KILLING me ! I miss the expression "hey lets go out east" and the zucchini and pumpkin bread....okay I will be saying all day ..I love palm trees I love palm trees

:cool1: yep that's the one !

Thought it might be. You better sit down. I grieved this place already when it was bought out in 2006. Prior to that my husband and I, when we were dating ate there every Friday night. So sad.:sad2:

I NEVER should have opened this thread.

Although we live in Illinois, we are much closer to the Wisconsin State Fair. I haven't missed it since I was about 3 years old, and I am in in my 40's now.

We are going on Saturday and I am already depressed. I am doing the low carb thing, and I can't think of a single good thing to eat there that is low carb. I guess I can do the Sheboygan brat with no bun, but what fun is that?

Oh well, I will cheer myself up by people watching. The WI state fair has world class people watching! :thumbsup2
