In honor of the Facebook IPO, what do you guys think? Is Facebook here to stay or a passing fad? I use to do Facebook but now I'm turned off won't post anything.

Of course it is a fad, just like indoor plumbing and the automobile. Outhouses and the horse as our primary mode of transportation are right around the corner.

I voted here to stay, but not the rule the world option. I hope Facebook sticks around because it has been extremely useful for me to keep in touch with my family. We live away from everyone, but we are able to share so much on Facebook that it really lets us feel like we are still together.:goodvibes

A lot of my friends are moving onto twitter and instagram and deleting or not going on their facebooks as much as before. It's definitely not as popular as before (with college kids at least).

Here to stay for now. Something better will eventually come along. Look at Myspace that ruled the world for a bit right.

It will stay, but mostly for the older folks. Kids are to cool to keep using the same things that their grandmothers are using. Eventually there will be something cooler that all the young hip youngsters will flock to.

I agree with everyone else. It will last until something better comes along. It certainly isn't making friends with Timeline and some of the other updates it has been doing over the past few months. I had some friends give it up.

Too many changes are going on. A lot of people don't like it. BUT, people are still nosey and want to know whats going on with everyone!:rotfl2: I think it will be here for a while then fade out, unless they "add" something really special to it that people will love!

I think Facebook will be around for awhile. They are going to have to make sure that they evolve to stay relevant and I'm sure that the stock holders that they will now have to answer to will do everything they can to make sure of that.

It will need to evolve like Google, invest it's capital into new technologies. Google could have been the next AltaVista search, but it stayed current, had a great technology backbone and invested its capital.

I was always a moderate user of Facebook. I enjoyed seeing posts from my family and friends, commenting on them and so on. Recently, with the new changes, I am usually just frustrated. I post things and they disappear. I don't know whether or not, it is just on my news feed or my wall or if everyone I am posting too, is not getting the stuff.

I recently composed a Mothers Day greeting to my girls, because I truly admire the job they are doing with their own children. I wasn't looking for praise for my post but I wanted them to see that I was proud of them. The next thing you know it disappears because it was automatically grouped with ALL the mothers day greetings that were posted. Even on my own news feed, I was relegated to "other" posts. I don't know if it showed up the same way on their news feed and I don't dare to ask because then it would take the original intent away and make me look like I was fishing for a reaction. I also try to share stuff and I lose responses even on my Wall.

It is nice to add features as long as the replacement is as good as the original. Because of that, I believe that it will end up being a fad. I know I am posting on it a lot less then before. I also attempted to sign up for one of their "special" things and ended up with endless Spam and even phone calls asking me if I wanted to go to college. I'm 64 years old, my collegiate requirement lapsed a long time ago.

Yes. Was not too long ago, every one was on my space. I hardly ever check my Facebook now.

I don't know. I've been on it since 2004, when I was in college and you had to have a college email address to use it. I've seen MANY changes happen since then and it is still here. It really only seems like the past couple of years when people decided to start complaining when it changed. I think it is because more people use it now and don't want things to change even though they need to in order to stay fresh and make the experience better.

Within 10 years, there will be something else taking over for FB.

not to mention, tons of users forced into timeline where a majority of ppl dont like. Theres nothing new to go to so facebook still dominates until something comes around...

This is my feeling. I just don't see it existing in 10 years. Something newer and better will come along. My understanding is that advertisers are already beginning to opt out (but I don't have any hard facts on that).

However, change for change's sake is bad, and that's exactly the kind of change that has been going on with FB over the past year or two. The changes do nothing to enhance the user's experience. IMO, most of the changes have been detrimental and have made using FB more frustrating.

Unless TPTB at FB get that sorted out, it may not even take 10 years for it to disappear.

Timeline is absolutely wonderful and when I end up on one of the few pages left that haven't changed it just looks so old and outdated.

My high school kids are on twitter and instagram too. They also use Pintererst. They got frustrated with facebook when all the parents and grandparents started getting on it. I remember when they were younger it was Xanga, then Myspace, then Facebook. I think there will always be something new.:thumbsup2
