I really want facebook but my mom won't let me.

She thinks that something bad will happen on there.

I even agreed to let my family add me as a friend so that they check what i am doing.

Well the main point of this thread is:

Do you have facebook?
What did your parents say when you asked them?
Has anything bad ever happend to you on it?
Can your friends add personal information on your profile?

I told my mom it isn't dangerous but she is like "yeah it is.there are people who you don't even know who could find out where you live and try to find you"
And i'm like:

"well you have to add them as a friend first!"

Its like myspace.
My profile is private.. and I only add people who i know from looking at their Display Pic. =/
And the only information i have on my page is my first name.

Can your friends add personal information on your profile? No, I do believe they can tag you in pictures, videos, etc. and they could show up on your mini-feed, unless you change it. As far as being known out there to predators, keep your page private. You dont have to list your high school on there and you dont have to say the town you are living in. You can just put Nova Scotia. Facebook is a lot safer then MySpace.

Facebook isn't dangerous as long as you're smart about it. Don't post personal information like home address, telephone number, etc. Keep that private. And you can set your privacy setting to as strict as you want it.

I have had one for a couple years now, and I haven't had any problems.

Myspace is only "dangerous" if people are stupid and put their address or something on their page. Seriously, its not that bad. You just have to be smart about what you put on there.

I have one, and a myspace. My mom didn't care, she had a facebook first. Nothing bad has happened to me on it, yet. Uhm, I know that I can see other peoples groups. Like if I have a friend, I can get into their groups and see everything they write, even if I'm not a part of the group. I don't like that.
Personally, I think Myspace is safer if you do it the right way. My real age and location aren't on there, the only thing that is real is my first name. It's private, and I don't add anyone I don't know.

I have facebook.
I just had to give my parents the password and explain to them how it worked.
Nothing bad has happened.
Friends can only tag pictures of you and write public messages. I think that all they can do, but I may be forgetting stuff.

Facebook is really safe, as long as you are SMART about it.

I have one. You can be pretty darn picky as to how private/public you want it. However, it is addicting!

Yes.
I told them I'd be careful, and did some searches to prove to them that there are privacy settings and that I'd use them. So they said yes.
No.
My FRIENDS can't. I can, and controll if I want my friends to see it.
