I just got a message from a Disney fan (maybe a DISer?) that had a "cool" video attached in the last 30 minutes. I checked the FB first to make sure it was a "real" person - and it appeared to be.

I clicked on the video and my computer went crazy saying it was malicious and a "Trojan" virus. I have very up to date virus software here at work, so I just wanted to warn the rest of you guys that may not have the up to date virus detection to avoid that link.

I won't name the Disney fan...as I don't think he actually sent the message?

It happens alot on facebook. It looks like a friends is sending you a video or link to something. But it's a virus, when you look at the message it go's to all your friends on your lists. Thinking you are sending them something. So watch out people :)

The person who sent it is a Diser and he posted on his status that it was a virus and he didn't send it. :)

I figured he had no idea...

I guess since I clicked on it...will it also send out from mine? How does that work? This virus thing is all new to me.

My DIS addiction has gotten me addicted to FB, too. :lmao:

I tried to download it because it came from a really cool DIS'er and I didn't think it would be bad. Turns out this DIS'er didn't even send it! Luckily, I have amazing virus software and it was caught immediately. I'm running a scan right now to make sure nothing else snuck through. About a minute later, I got another message with the same message from somone I didn't know.

Just avoid it and do yourself a favor and update your virus software today. That's my public service message of the day...

over and out

Thanks for the PSA, Sam. Have I mentioned how much I love love love :lovestruc:love: your sig? Are you going to be able to make it to the meet in Schaumburg on Sunday?

I don't think so! I wish I could, but this is the first weekend in two months that my DH will be off. With me out of work, he's working his butt off to make ends meet. So, with him actually being off, we are going to hang out. He's not a big Disney fan {{oh the horror}} and I don't want him to spend his day at the mall either.

Now, if there were a Bass Pro Shops nearby, he might bend a little! :lmao:

My co-workers daughter opened her Facebook account and noticed that her status had been changed and then saw a "movie" link. Thinking that one of her friends posted it, she clicked on it. It took my co-worker a day and a half to get all 14 Trojan Horses off her computer. That was yesterday morning. I am heading to work to see if anything else has happened to her daughter's Facebook account.

I have informed my FB addicted DH to stay off it for awhile. He clicks on everything and does not realize what he's doing until it's too late! :confused3

Got this last week "from" my cousin. IT said Cool Family Video. I seem to have gotten rid of the virus. And this is why I no longer will do the games, silly quizzes etc (not that I did much) I just read and occasionally post comments.

Owners Locker was kind enough to send me an e-mail to let me know about the virus.

One of our "real life" friends, who is a DISer, posted this on his FB account this morning. If he's the same person you're talking about, he would never intentionally do anything like that. He's a great guy! Unfortunately, things like that happen with FB sometimes.

I got the same message from a DISer - but I knew immediately it was a virus and just deleted it. It said something like "Cooooooooool Video!!!" Nobody types like that. And the "link" it led to (I could see what it was just by hovering over it) looked equally weird.

You really have to be careful what you click on. My DH just had to clean out a co-workers computer after he clicked on a pop-up that said "You may have a virus! Click here to get rid of it!" And when he clicked on it - BAM. Virus. They try anything to get you to download that junk.

I apologize to all my DISer FB friends who may have received this from me. I would never do anything like that to anyone. I did not send that message. I had received this from another friend of mine whom I personally knew and stupid me opened the link. My McAffee caught and got rid of the virus but my facebook account was still hacked into and sent all these messages out to all my FB friends. I followed everything that facebook recommends if your account is hacked into....change password, etc. Again I am really sorry for all this that happened today.

i received a message as well- when i saw it was from an old HS friend that I don't really chat with much, I knew it was probably a virus. DELETE! good thing, i am certain it was exactly this virus.

BAMA, this virus thing is not your fault! Don't apologize. These jerks who start this stuff should be shot with paintballs til they cry! We all know you are too good of a guy to do something like that!!

Oh, I hope you don't think that I think you sent it intentionally? I don't know you (although we are FB friends, which is great!), but I figured you were cool when I saw your picture with the Disney stuff on it. :)

Someone a while back sent me a video of a family that had gone on a Disney vacation and it was GREAT and they sent it over FB. So I honestly thought this was something like that. I didn't know them either.

I started this thread a public service announcement. I had never seen one of those, but I have since learned it happens a lot and actually saw one on my friends FB account tonight.

No worries! :)
