They can block sites. But as I mentioned, I was told facebook isn't one of them. Maybe it is in some libraries. I know in my library at home, everyone uses all the computers. There are only 5 of them. Somr stuff doesn't come up on all of them, but they are all the same and next to each other. I've been in a lot of libraries, and the ones I visit are pretty much like my home library.

I guess I am more spoiled with my library then I realized. I checked the 6-12 and 13-17 computers earlier today; I could get onto my FB from the teen pcs only.

No. It's a violation of the terms of service -- simple as that.
You really don't want to give kids the idea that contracts are something that can be ignored any time you like. If you enter into a contract, you honor the terms, or you have no leg to stand on in the event that a dispute arises.
I agree 100% - if you chose to let your kid watch a movie, read a book, have a certain bedtime, play outside without watching, ride a bike without a helmet, eat/drink some banned substance etc in your home that is your right as a parent and I while I may not always agree I respect your right as a parent.
Violating FB's terms of service is grounds to have your account suspended. The terms of service are there for a reason and IMO should be respected. As for letting your kids play FarmTown etc.. No way, I have a farm that I tend daily. I have run into some real strange and nosey people. No way would I turn my 10 year old loose with that open chat forum. (perhaps when tweaking the privacy areas it tweaks the chat access I do not know but my point remains the same).

From a different perspective: I run an online fan forum for a children's author. There are legal reasons why we set it to 13 and over. I could allow under 13s with a faxed parental consent, but refuse to because of legal issues that could result. I would be mightily pissed off if some youngster lied about their age to post on my forum. The age limit is there for a reason. While this is a "children's" book, I doubt many under 13 are reading it, and if they are, they can still wait to post until they are of an appropriate age.

We carefully monitor the forum, but people still sneak in all kinds of spam, sometimes by putting links in their profiles as they join or posting before we can delete it. I also can't control what one person may PM another person. Even if we go through and delete it, you cannot unread something.

Want to talk about libraries preventing certain links... well they can if they choose to.
Heck even your ISP can prevent you from viewing a website. (4chan message boards recently got blocked by AT&T... I don't suggest you go to that site, but you can find stories on it).

There's plenty of cute gaming things like farmville on children websites, but if you don't want any outside connection, get them Harvest Moon... there's one for just about any generation of video game systems.

If she wants to stay in contact with relatives, allow her to send emails or just call. FB really isn't the "greatest thing around". I still don't see the point in it other than to put random things down and share photos. But using photobucket is easier and better.

Rules are rules, wait till she's 13. There's legalities behind that rule and it shouldn't be up to you to break it. I know years ago on one my favorite message boards of all times, people's accounts were being closed because they mentioned they were underage... half the time it was people doing it as pranks to see if they really could get thier account closed. Then you had to go through the admin to try to get the account re-open. He also tracked user accounts though IP addresses so you couldn't try to create a new email/account.
Especially if you yourself have a facebook account, you could risk having ALL accounts suspended for an underage user.
