Face Painting

We have just returned from 10 days at WDW and had an awesome time.

DS, almost 4 yo, got into face painting while he was there. The face painters there were excellent!!!!

Anyway, his 4th birthday party is coming up and I was thinking that I'd like to get a face painter to come to the party.

I searched the net and the yellow pages and came up with a bunch of names, but I feel like I am just pulling a name out of a hat and I may chose a looser.

Here are my questions:

1) I live in northern NJ - anyone reading live in this area that can recommend a good face painter (yes, I know it's a long shot, but I thought I'd ask! LOL!)

2) Where else could I search for recommendations? Is there some kind of affiliation (I know that sounds silly, but you never know!)

My DDs also got their faces painted at WDW and loved it. Many small festivals in my area have people that set up face painting booths. You might check with local festival organizers. Most of those people (at least the ones I've met) do only "booths" at festivals/fairs, etc - so may not consider advertising in the phone book, which can be expensive. Call your local Chamber of Commerce or Convention & Visitors Bureau to find out what organizations hold those type events and who to call.

At one of my kids parties, we just bought face paint and had my niece do the actual painting. she is extremely artistic though. Maybe if your local school has an art class you might find volunteers.

We live in Chicago, We have a face painter ever year at our 3rd of July party. It keeps the kids occupied for about an hour. I looked in the phone book under "clowns" and called them up to see which ones do face painting. I suggest hiring the clown for about 2 hours, 1 hour for the face painting and another hour for games.

I believe it was in Toontown. It's expensive - as everything is in WDW - but my girls loved it so much. I can send you some pics if you'd like to see a couple of examples. Send me a PM.

My kids had theirs done at the AK, right by the hair beading. AMAZING. That one word sums it up. DD got a Leopard mask, complete with sparkling lips. And DS got a raptor that curled around his mouth. Very cool. The paint was incredible, once it dried it didn't even smudge. DD was so sad in the AM when she had to wash it off! Those face painters were so quick and did such a great job. The cost wasn't too bad considering it is Disney after all. They started at $10 and went up to about $18. Ours were $12 and $15. My youngest freaked out half way through so we didn't have to pay for her and she was still thrilled with her butterfly eyes! It's definitly going to be a must for our next trip.

We had DS's face painting done in Magic Kingdom (toontown), MGM (near the Drew Carey Sound Stage) and they had them in Animal Kingdom but I can't remember where. We could not find them in Epcot though! I have awesome pictures of DS you can email me at cinjam@optonline.net if you'd like to see them!

DS had a dragon & a tiger - AWESOME (to echo what another poister said)!!!
