Face it Catholics, we're a bunch of Devil Worshipers

I learned in Time Magazine this week that Teddy Roosevelt invented the phrase "lunatic fringe."
It suits this site.

Holy cow! What a bunch of garbage that is. And Born Agains actually believe this stuff?

A few weeks ago there were a couple males headed for my door as we were headed out. They mentioned they were with some church. Right off the bat I told them I'm not interested, and don't leave any flyers on my property. Then they said they were looking for such and such a person at whatever number. Search the numbers!! Geez. Next I was ready to clue them in about the "no soliciting" sign at the entrance to the community.

I had some Jehovah's Witness guys come up to my door one evening while Dh was at work and DD13 was at a friend's house. The twins were screaming and I was trying to start feeding them. The JW's saw me through the window and were saying to me through the window to let them in because they could help me.

The majority if not VAST majority of them do not believe stuff like that. You can't lump all Born Agains together because of some radical website.

Well not to Christian bash--if they are going to take the whole dang bible so literally--please tell me what they don't believe in the body and blood of christ (i.e not a symbol!!!)? Hmm--didn't Jesus say that---(take this....this is my body....do this in memory of me...)?

(my response to those who try to claim that catholics aren't christian).

All due respect, a good number of actual born agains I've run into have tried to "save me" in one way or another. The most surprising was the wife of my husband's employee (I don't know -- your husband's boss's wife???)
but there have been lots others. I think that website is very extreme, and I know that there are surely those who disagree with it, but I'm not sure that there aren't quite a few born agains that think we Catholics are doomed.

I've always wondered that! Jesus said it quite clearly, so why do they think this is symbolic? Not trying to be a smart aleck -- I've just always wondered!

Being Catholic means you can act up on Saturday and go to church on Sunday and all is well.

And some other faiths you say "I'm saved" and you have carte blanche to do whatever you want the rest of your life.

Precisely the incorrect statements like what you have said--that leads you to miscomprehend everything about the RCC.

(And I had one of those evil stepsisters who was "saved"---and she actually made a similar statement to the one I made. And proceeded to continue to be mean to me b/c she was going to heaven anyway. )

She then informed me that I should try and save myself and my children because the end was coming. She told me all I needed to do was follow the bible literally and I'd be OK.

:lmao:

just reply back about the body and blood of christ and why she opts to not listen to Jesus. :teeth:

I know I've posted this before somewhere but my best friend told me about how at her granddaughter's christening (Catholic) the other grandmother came up to her after hearing the homily and said (I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP) I didn't know that ya'll believed in Christ.

I'm a part of a Christian Homeschooling group. We had a little bible study of sorts--and one of the moms actually asked if Catholics believe in Jesus.

If we don't--I'm wondering why he's hanging in our church, why my parish is named after him, and why they talk about him an awful lot.

(I didn't say that--I was polite--but it is one of those comments/questions that makes you scratch your head in disbelief (at what they are saying)).

No MOST do not. Unfortunately there's a lunatic fringe in almost any religion.

sadly, my MIL believes this. It is one of the many reasons we do not discuss religion with her. :sad2:

I am as - if not MORE - tired of all the Catholic-bashing that goes on on the DIS as anyone else.

But I don't like the tone THIS thread is taking, either. It is one thing to talk with people who understand about how you've been insulted or "wronged." It is quite another to go on the attack and begin insulting others.

I do try to remember that these people are acting out of kindness. I get as ticked as anyone, thinking, "I'm in no danger and don't need saving!" But they really believe that God is going to send everyone who isn't like them to hell (misguided as they may be) and are just trying to help.

I totally agree with you--that's why I stated that "MOST" Born Agains don't agree with that instead of "ALL" Born AGains don't agree. Of course you can find those crazies that don't think Catholics are Christians--and many of them, but it's certainly not a majority. Remember, there are many Catholics out there that think ONLY the other Catholics will be heaven---but I wouldn't say most of them think that.

I'll just chirp in again and say that you can't judge an entire group by the actions of the few.

I sincerely doubt that any statistically significant numbers of "born again" Christians actively practice what was on that page.

DH had had Southern Baptists call him an idol worshoping Catholic. We love that line.

I alway state that "I did not know that Christianity was founded in the 1600s."

Excellent point!!!!

What gets me is these people who don't think Catholics are Christian. Hate to disappoint you but we were here first. Every other Christian church spilt from us.

I always love pointing that little "fun fact" out to my protestant friends :teeth:

My DH is Baptist.... and his church is in the midst of hiring a pastor. At some point in his sermon, he made some references to his Catholic Christian colleagues and friends. I was highly impressed. :)

Hmmmm, I could be wrong, but I think there are far more born agains than you think that -- well, maybe they wouldn't go so far as to say we aren't Christians, but that think we aren't going to heaven -- because we aren't "born again", according to them. If there are so few of them, why do I run into them all the time"? And why is the community church near me saying it from the pulpit -- they aren't exactly the "lunatic fringe"?
