I have heard that if you audition for a performer position and the casting director thinks that you look like one of the face characters than you may be cast as a princess, etc. I have seen alot of pics and been to the parks and many of the characters look very little like their movie selves. So what exactly is the look that they are looking for??

Do you look like a cartoon character? That's what they're looking for. What some may see, other may not. It happens.

alright. this is dumb and i know it ahead of time, but can someone please inform me what these "politics" consist of?

I don't have any face experience, but it's not just looks, I'd imagine. Most face roles require a great deal of interaction with guests. I believe that a person's ability to play up to Disney's character integrity standards (IE: smile smile smile and don't sass the four year olds) is placed on a higher pedestal than looks alone. And yes, unfortunately at times politics and "who you know" play a factor, but I speak from personal experience when I say that "who you know" is the rule of thumb pretty much everywhere in the Disney company and corporate America in general.

Disney can put makeup on you, give you pretty costumes, and amazing wigs... and they can pretty much transform anything into anyone..

You just got to be able to play the part to their liking. ;)

It's kind of hard to say "politics" when they've never seen you before. Don't listen to what other people say; go ahead and audition. If you don't get it, neither did a lot of other people.

I second that. :thumbsup2

Definately go to the audition. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. And if you don't go, you'll regret it...kind of like I do, so GO and have fun! :)

pshh...All you have to do is look like the playmate of the year! (Kara Monaco)

From what I understand you can't become a face character unless you have been in the mouse suit for a long time. Like the real world who you know can get you farther faster but face characters are desirable positions so you won't get one just for being pretty or looking like a character.

As for the person who wants to know what character you qualify for-not many. Here is the listing from the site.

Atmosphere Characters

The Disneyland® Character Department is currently casting Atmosphere Characters.
Casting all positions: 4'7" - 5'3" and 5'10" - 6'3".

They have little for you unless you have more performing experience and can be in fantasmic or the parades. They never cast for characters between 5'3" and 5'10" because there are no costumes in that range.

Well there are quite a few things i would argue with here. I work as a character attendant, so Ive learned quite a bit about the entertainment department.

First off, you do not need to spend any time in a suit to become a face character, especially a mouse suit. Which characters you play are not based upon your seniority in the company. When you audition and you are asked to play a face character, then they will train you to be a face character. Simple as that, no previous experience needed.

Secondly, you are quite wrong in saying that there are no character costumes in the range of 5'3" - 5'10". There are alot of characters within that height range. To name a few: Tigger, Eeyore, Pluto, Gipetto, Buzz Light Year, Honest John...and thats to just name a FEW!

I believe you've just taken a current casting call for people only within those specified height ranges, and based your own assumptions around them. The ad is merely saying that right now, they do not have roles available in between 5'3" - 5'10" at this moment. I don't mean to cause offense, I'm just merely stating what I know from experience working in entertainment.

I'm female in the 5'3" -5'4" range. What character roles (both face and furry) do I qualify for?

It really is tough to tell just what character roles you would qualify to play, because the way that Disney measures how tall you are always seems to be different than how tall people really are.

Woo hoo! Gotta represent the puppy height peeps! Thanks! :thumbsup2

Yeah, Disney seems to be quite off in their measuring sometimes, so beware. I still think I am taller than they measured me at, but I am just a dog, so what do I know? ;)
