I want to share my recent dining experience at MYTHOS, one of the finest restaurants I've ever eaten in that surpasses all the rave reviews it gets.
How incredible that a theme park could have a restaurant this good.
On Sunday, October 28th, my girlfriend and I went to MYTHOS after reading on this site how great it is.
Our server, Athena, was a delight, extremely attentive. I had a combo that was not on the regular menu, but was a special the chefs had been trying out for possible use on New Year's Eve. It was lobster and beef wellington. WOW ! Just amazing.
Before ordering, I had mentioned to Athena that I occasionally saw one of the chefs at MYTHOS write in to this site, calling himself The Second Cook. Then, during the main course, a chef made his way into the dining area. Because of where we were seated, the chef came to our table first.
He introduced himself as Chef Mark (Mark Wachowiak). We had a great conversation about the restaurant, and I would learn that he grew up literally 3 blocks away from me. So we talked about our hometown. Chef Mark also referred to this site, and said he'd send The Second Cook out to meet us. He, too, was very friendly and said because of the response his contributions on this site had gotten, that MYTHOS is now planning its own web site.
We wound up getting pictures taken with the entire crew.
The food was incredible, presented in 5-star restaurant form. Hard to believe the Hulk coaster was just across the way.
By the way, the warm gooey banana cake........an absolute must. You may think you have no room, but this is worth going for. So is the tasting of chocolate my girlfriend would have when we returned a few days later.
That's when I met Chef Steve Jayson.............in the men's room.
I was washing my hands, he was doing the same when he struck up a conversation. I told him this was not our first trip, and went through the whole story. He was also very nice and came out to our table to talk even more about how Universal specifically wanted a quality restaurant for that particular area of the park. Chef Steve, a former Hyatt chef, told Universal if they wanted corn dogs and fries, he wasn't their guy. I told him I hope MYTHOS never chnages. Nothing wrong with a burger and onion rings, but you can get that anywhere in the parks.
From the architecture to the service to the stunning presentation and quality of the food, MYTHOS was pretty impressive. I had to see it to believe it, but this is a gem at Universal.
When you go, and I hope you do, ask to talk to Chef Mark and bring up Wisconsin.
This is a great place!
