How does the Food & Wine Festival effect your park day?

My Epcot date is Wed Sept 6th, which is historically, a low crowd time. Am I going to find the park more crowded than the same time last year? Should I expect meeting characters to be a bit more time consuming? Is there a time of day that is generally more crowded?

You should be fine. It's usually Friday evenings and the weekends that have the bigger crowds. We like to be there as soon as f&w open and have never had a problem.
