I'm thinking of going to the F&W Sat.Sept.29. I need some experienced opinions. Are there alot of loud drunk people? Is it much more crowded?

I've only been to the F&W festival* once, but I didn't notice anyone overly obnoxious. I tend to be in my own little world though.

It was more crowded than I expected, but not that bad. Good times.

*Hopefully that's what you meant. I'm blanking on other acronyms!

Since that is the first day, expect some problems, ie: kiosk registers not working, etc. It is also a weekend, so there will be a lot of local traffic, which doesn't seem to be the case during the week. As for drunks, you may see a few, but they will be there no matter what day you are there. :drinking1

If you have a choice, don"t go the first day and don't go on the weekend. You'll have long lines and opening day issues. If you can wait until a week day, you'll enjoy it a lot more. We've never had issues with drinkers out of control but we avoid weekends.

We did have an incident this past October at the F&W festival. Group of about 8 young (20s) males and females... One particularly inebrated male (still drinking, btw) who was speaking quite loudly to begin with hollered an exclamation I can't type here and proceeded to call crude attention to a part of my 17 year old daughter's anatomy, as my DD12 and I walked a few feet behind. A female holding his hand caught my glare at the young man and shushed him, and said, "He's drunk..... sorry" to which I replied, "How proud you must be to be his date..." and we walked on...

I have taken my DD (17) and DS(14) to the F&W three times... and yes we hae seen a few people that have had a few to many:drinking1: they don't bother me as much as those who are smoking in non smoking areas... seems that the drinkin and smokin go hand in hand :smokin::scared1: we just walk around them and go on our merry way... and then we eat!!!:yay:

WoW! I hope your DD17 wasn't upset by the offensive comments. I'm tweeking my dates and which parks to visit when. I was going by the unofficial guide but I think I'll toss it.

I don't recall seeing more drunks than usual during food and wine - not that we've seen many at any time. But there have been a few. One memorable individual was wearing a viking helmet purchased in Norway. This was around the time when Capital One had the viking commercial for their credit card. He did keep asking total strangers "What's in your wallet". Unfortunately for us, he was staying at Saratoga Springs and we ended up on the same bus as he did. He was pretty obnoxious on the bus - we really felt sorry for the driver. We were the first stop and thankfully the Viking stayed on the bus. We still mention him once in a while, particularly if we are talking about drinks around the world. He had obviously had a few too many drinks around the world!

We just moved here in September, and this past F&W festival was the first I'd ever attended. I was shocked by the number of drunks. People staggering around Epcot, one drunk woman following my father-in-law around, repeatedly offering to share her beer with him. We finally lost her by walking quickly enough; she was too drunk to keep up. I'd never been actually pestered by drunks before at WDW - it was a real eye opener as far as how the types of crowds can change the park experience.

Cheers!

We've been a few times during October and it did seem that there were a few more drunks around. I imagine that security is a little more tight then. We saw some pretty hammered people laying on benches once.

Last year we saw a woman being taken back to BC/YC in a wheelchair who appeared very drunk but I personally have never witnessed really bad behaviour and I've attended many F&W festivals.

We have never had any problems with drunks at the F&W.

But then again, we were not looking for them either.

My own experience has been definately more crowded & definately rowdier but I never experienced anything I would consider offensive even though I think the potential for it is there.

I have only been to WDW one time, last October. We walked around the parks the first few days wondering where the crowds were. We found them at WS in the evening. We went from walking 4 abrest to single file bob and weaving through the crowds. It was pretty crowded compared to anywhere else we went.

As far as drunks--we only noticed them after IllumiNations when everyone was filing out of the parks. We were there two nights at this time. The worst was that I saw someone vomit in the fountain in the U.K. (my kids were oblivious to it) Otherwise, just a few large groups of 20 somethings that were pretty well oiled. A chugging contest between a few, some having trouble standing upright and one very loud, very big guy (he was funny but VERY drunk).

Now, I have been part of a staggering group of young people myself (a long time ago, lol) but I think I'd avoid WS in the late evening if I were there for F&WFest again with my kids. IllumiNations didn't do much for me and I don't feel like I need to see it again, so I'd be okay leaving before it started. My kids would not be so oblivious next trip, and since I don't feel compelled to be there at night, I'd just avoid it :)

My family went to the F&W festival this past October, and we had a blast. We did half of the world during an afternoon (around 3 or 4 PM), and it was nothing. The park didn't seem any more crowded than usual, and no one appeared to be drunk. On our last night in the World, we went back and finished the other half of the World Showcase. It was an EMH night, and I remember it was a bit more crowded that usual, but that was also because of people vying for spots for the fireworks. The only drunks we saw all night were by the German beer cart that sells only beer and no food. I would definitely recommend going if you get the chance. I went with my mom, my aunt, and my younger brother, and we would buy at least one thing from each country (maybe more if the food looked good), and then we would divide it amongst each other. That way, if we didn't like it, we hadn't wasted a whole lot of money. It was fun and really educational! I tried escargot...and LOVED it. Hee! Enjoy, and bon appetit!
